His Kiss

I lay on Mello's couch while working. I worked for him separate from his mafia, he needed all the help he could get. He was working on something else and neither of us had spoken in ages, too busy in concentration.

He suddenly screamed and threw the notebook he'd been writing in onto the floor. I was used to his tantrums so I just sighed and asked what was wrong.

"Never mind what's wrong!" He yelled at me. "Just get out and don't come back!"

"What?"

"I said get out! Go on, fuck off, leave!"

I sat up and put my things in my bag. He glared at me and my heart hurt. He couldn't mean it, could he? I walked over to the door and paused.

"Do you really want me to leave for good?"

"Yes, I said so, didn't I?!"

"Right."

I opened the door but closed it again and walked over to him. He sat with his head in his hands.

"No Mello, I'm not leaving," I spoke as firmly as I could.

He looked up and shrugged.

"Don't you get it? I can't do this, I'm going to lose again."

He glanced away and when he spoke again, his voice was trembling slightly.

"I don't want you to see me as a loser."

"Mello, I'd never see you as a loser. Listen to me. Even if you don't win this case, it's because there's so many factors against you. You've worked so damn hard, and you deserve to win but shit happens. I wouldn't think any less of you. I may not be anything to you, but I think you have a brilliant mind and you're a brilliant person."

"So why do I always lose? And why is Matt the only person who's ever even liked me?"

"That's rubbish, I like you. And I've met Near and I know you hate him but he actually likes and admires you."

"He does?" He looked surprised.

"Yes," I sat down beside him. "But I like you more than anyone. So you can make me leave the case, but I don't want to leave you."

We stared at each other. My eyes were pleading and close to tears, I could tell he was thinking so I gave him time to take it all in before I spoke again.

"Do you understand what I'm saying, Mello?"

"Not really. I'm not exactly used to having someone like me," I saw a spark of hope in his eyes.

"Well, I do. I want you in my life."

"I want..." He whispered and trailed off.

"Tell me what you want. At least tell me if you want me or not?"

He reached up and wiped away the tear that fell from my eye, before more could join it.

"Please don't cry. You're so brave to tell me this, and I'm just a coward."

"I want you, Mello. I know you're brave too, way braver than me."

"Not with this kind of thing," He smiled a bit. "If I can't say it, can I just..."

He leaned in and kissed me. His lips and tongue tasted of chocolate of course, he was splendid. He smiled again when we broke apart.

"Do you understand what I'm saying, Y/N?"

"No, you'd better kiss me again. Lots!"

"Fine by me."
