I have a plan too. I'm going to decorate our little place to make it more homely. I've been finding ideas online and I'm ready to do this on a budget. Now is the perfect time while Mello is out doing his thing. I've kept it secret, wanting to surprise him. I spend hours doing the place up, it's tiring but the thought of his smile keeps me going. When I finally sit down, I realise it's later than I thought. He should have been back by now. I check my phone but there are no missed calls or texts. I wonder if he's just catching up with Matt some more, but feel a knot of worry in my stomach, remembering the last time he disappeared. I call him but get his voicemail. I'm not sure what to do so I stare at the boxes of chocolate I bought him. The cd I'd been listening to ends, and I automatically move to change it when I think of checking the news. I switch on the tv and see a building on fire. A news reporter is talking but I don't understand. I watch the headline across the bottom until the English version shows up.
"Kira spokesperson dead in fire after kidnapping. Kidnapper also assumed dead."
The pieces of the puzzle click into place in my mind as my heart shatters into as many pieces.
The tv switches to a scene of a shooting.
"Kidnapper's assistant who was shot dead, still not identified."
I fall gracefully (somehow) onto the couch. I switch off the tv and sit in silence. Mello should be sitting beside me, his hand in mine, eating his chocolate and being grouchy but loveable. I'm alone again, in a strange country with no money.
But worst of all, I have no one.
I have no Mello.

[AN- Now I want chocolate cake but I don't want to get out of bed. Also I've been singing this Britney song the whole time, because of the title. I'm aware I switched tense a couple of times, for suspense in the moment reasons, I don't know if it worked or just seems like bad writing, I'd have to read it all over to tell and I'm too tired]
