Saving Us *Mate Astray*

Chapter 9

"That's absurd Lex" I say in such a hurry that it sounds more like a high pitch noise.

"Not at all El. You can hear each other's thoughts, can communicate using solely your minds. You two clearly have a bond that no natural phenomenon can explain."

At this point my head was spinning, I was sweating from how nervous I was, the machine to my left that records my heart beat was beeping every 4 seconds and I was ready to run out of the hospital.

"That's not possible and you know it. I'm human, I can't have a mate."

"El..." Lex's eyes softened as he made his way to the bed, sitting at the edge and slowly grabbing my hand. "Listen to me Elektra, this woman, she might be your mate. Someone you are destined to be with, don't run away from it."

"What if she isn't? What if this is just some mistake? What if she sees me and rejects me? Every females idea of a mate is tall, dark, handsome and Alpha. I'm short, more on the cute side, female and human."

Lex lets out a laugh as if this was actually funny. I give him a hard look that makes him stop and look slightly apologetic. "Sorry El, at least you got the dark quality going for you." He laughs yet again. If he wasn't such a good friend, I would kill him.

"You are beautiful El and anyone would be lucky to have you as their mate. You need to talk to her."

I sigh out loud. "I don't know how to do that. She has always been the one to communicate with me, I'm not sure if I can do it."

"You have to at least try. Focus on her, on your interactions and let your mind do the rest. Think of her and you should be able to at least get her attention."

It was worth a shot. Now that Lex had put the idea in my head there was nothing else I could think about. I need to know whether or not she was my mate. I was already dreading that conversation.

Thank you Lex. You are always there for me."

"That's what girl friends do for each other." He says in his best girly voice, adding a wink at the end.

"Goddess you are so queer."

"You know it baby." It's my turn to laugh. Lex really did have an amazing gift, somehow making me laugh regardless of the situation.

I was feeling slightly better considering the day I have had. I was still a little confused about everything, including the water nymph that had saved my life but for now it seemed enough to just focus on getting better and my family.

"Are the twins still with their father?"

"Yes, they are about 4 doors down. I had never seen those two so afraid, it was horrible. The day was awful for everyone, we are all trying to move on and forget."

I can imagine. Everyone was on their toes today, afraid that the rogues would get pass our security and into our homes. We were all on edge, which reminded me of Luna Jasmine's behaviour, it was so out of character.

"Did you see Luna Jasmine today after the threat?"

"Not really. We were told that the Luna and Alpha retreated to their rooms after they checked up on Beta Nathan."

"I saw a side of the Luna that surprised me. I wasn't expecting that behaviour from her, she is usually so calm."

"What exactly happened?"

I then explained everything that happened after the rogue had attacked, at least what I remembered, including the Luna's angry demeanour and her wolf almost taking over.
