Chapter 29

Elektra's POV

You are a pure breed

Tainted

...you are a monster, an abomination and the beast within you is proof of that

Her words kept replaying in my mind like a horror movie that haunts your dreams. The person I thought I was is slipping from my grasp, quickly being replaced by a monster without a face, a power that grows each day and a beast that speaks to me.

I am not human

That knowledge took me by surprise for I have never felt anything other than ordinary...yet here I was, on the verge of losing the only version of myself I had ever known to the power within me.

I shook my head viciously as I finally arrived at the Alpha's office. Sarah and Alpha Derek are expecting an answer from me regarding the attacks and the witch I had encountered yet I was not sure what to say. I wanted to protect Sarah yet I knew that if given the choice the Alpha would choose his pack's safety over protecting an acquaintance.

I took a deep breath and knocked. Becoming anxious over it would do me no good, I needed to come up with a plan and in order to do that I needed their help.

"Come in."

I let myself in, closing the door behind me in order to ensure more privacy and came face to face with Sarah and Alpha Derek in what appeared to be the middle of a heated discussion.

"Bad timing?" I asked, unsure of what could have caused this seriousness.

Alpha Derek shook his head. "Not at all. In truth we were waiting for you."

Forgetting briefly my purpose in the room I was momentarily distracted by the way Sarah's eyes seemed to light up when I walked into the room and I wondered if it was just my mind playing tricks on me.

"As John informs me..." His voice brought me back to reality as I moved my eyes towards the Alpha. "... you encountered a witch in our territory. If we take into account the attacks recently and the fact that they are being aided by a witch, it is safe to say she is here for a reason."

I nod, acknowledging his words yet refusing to confirm what he was saying.

"It seems it was not a pleasant encounter however you seem unharmed."

Again all I can do is nod before I catch myself and choose to speak as to not arouse suspicion.

"She was not particularly interested in me." Anger and disgust made my voice harsh and brunt.

"Did she harm you?"

The question came from Sarah, a hint of concern coating her voice. The Alpha did not seem to notice, simply waiting for me to answer.

"No, she did not harm me. Like I said she was not interested in me."

"Did she say anything else?"

I hesitated. My eyes drifted to Sarah and back to the Alpha once more. My loyalty lies with Alpha Derek and it is my duty as a member of this pack, to keep them safe but my need to protect my mate was clouding my judgement.

"Elektra?"

"She spoke of someone in particular, someone that had taken something from her and now had hell to pay."
