Sarah's POV
Silence fell in the room as dread ran down my spine and my body shook almost unnoticeably.
All I could do was stare back at the endless, vengeful eyes of my mate's monster as my mind conjured up an image of Elektra's lifeless body, laying bloodied on the floor as Victoria stands above her. I blink once to get rid of the disturbing picture and take a steady breath to aid with the nausea.
"I would like to speak with my mate, Atesh."
I expected a fair amount of resistance, even getting to the point of a physical confrontation but all I got in return was a reluctant nod. I watched in fascination as the anger cleared, the golden flecks returning to beautiful green eyes that stared back at me with an intensity that could move worlds.
Both remained silent for a few seconds as the tension from before began to seep away.
"Nothing you can say will change my mind." Her voice was soft and barely above a whisper but the determination shining behind it was not to be taken lightly.
"I still have to try." My own stubbornness showing through and making my voice stronger than I felt at the moment. "You are speaking of going on, what can only be described as a suicide mission."
"I have to get him back." Torment and sadness flashed in her eyes briefly before it was quickly replaced by hatred. "She needs to pay for what she did."
"Elektra, her power is equal to that of a God." I state, my voice rising in volume with each word. "She has no weaknesses to speak of, she appears to now command an army of enhanced shifters and she has no sense of mercy. She is the definition of invincible."
At this point I was pacing from one side of the room to the other, shouting at the top of my voice, frustrated at Elektra for being so set on killing herself in search of revenge and angry at myself for being too weak to have killed Victoria when I had the chance.
"No one is invincible." Elektra responds, entirely unaffected by my outburst.
I stop in the centre of the room and gaze at my mate, transfixed by her determination and strength but also incredibly fearful of the future and the possibility that I will be losing her.
I allow myself the luxury of being able to stare at my mate as she is now, alive, beautiful, perfect yet not truly mine.
She is our
Maybe in body if we were to allow it, the attraction is certainly there but her mind and spirit are elsewhere
The loss hit me all at once, as irrational as it seems considering my mate is within arms reach; to me the distance between us equalled that between planets. Elektra did not see me nor this pack, she was present in body but not in mind; no, there was only one thing that occupied her thoughts and that was vengeance.
"Elektra" I whispered, my voice sounded broken and distant to my own ears. The pain and grief that echoed in that one word was without depth, a force that would not seize its destruction until I no longer lived.
Her eyes met mine and for the first time since I walked in the room, she seemed to really see me. To know and acknowledge my presence beyond the revenge that appeared to imprison her mind.
"What's wrong?" Her eyes showed real concern and for the first time in what felt like days my mate was back, no grief showing in her eyes, no evidence of the last few hours and no anger. She was the imagine of a loving partner worried about their mate and that only added to my pain.
"I have lost you already."
Her eyes shimmered with confusion and apprehension.
"I'm right here."
