Saving Us *Mate Astray*

Chapter 2

Elektra's POV

After the failed attempt at a quiet and normal breakfast, I head out and make my way to the parking area. My car is my pride and joy; it is an SUV Hummer H2 in ruby-red. People are taken by surprise when they see who drives it as it is considered a muscle car, and therefore not suitable for a girl but I do not agree. It is mine and I take great pride in owning it.

"Hey Elektra wait up."

When I looked behind me I saw two of my closest friends running towards me. It is a rather intimidating experience considering they both tower over me by a good four feet. It does not help that they are built like pro fighters, their muscles barely contained by their clothes.

"Jake, stop running, you know I called shot gun."

"Ha, should have been faster then, the first one there gets the privileges."

"Elektra tell the dumbass soon-to-be-alpha that I called shotgun and therefore I'm going in the front."

"It's my car guys, if I choose neither of you is getting their ass in the front seat and you will have to walk to school." Both teenage boys stopped in their tracks and looked apologetic, though having lived with them for as long as I have I knew it was just a front.

"Sorry El."

"Get your asses in the back seat, Jayd is sitting in the front today." I looked to the afore mentioned teenager to see a smirk make it's way to her face.

"Aww come on. I mean I know we were being a bit annoying but that doesn't mean you have to let the she-devil have the front seat."

"Watch it Jason. You and I both know I can beat you up any day of the week with my eyes closed." Said Jayd, knowing that she would get a rise out of her twin brother.

As predicted, Jason got all red in the face as he stormed up to his sister, standing only a few centimetres away from her face, nostrils flaring. "You wanna say that again? I don't think I heard you right the first time."

Here we go again, I think, beginning to grow annoyed at their childish antics.

Jayd and Jason were twins, son and daughter to Beta Nathan, second in command to the Alpha as well as his long time friend. As per tradition one of the siblings would become the next Beta when Jake, the eldest son of Alpha Derek, became old enough to take his father's place and run the Pack. This wouldn't happen for a few years considering Jake was still only 15 years of age however there had always been some tension between the twins. They were both striving to become the next in line for the title of Beta which created some rivalry between the siblings.

"Guys cut it out, we are going to be late and I don't feel like being yelled at on the first day back." That seemed to snap both of them out of their staring contest as they grudgingly made their way to the car.

I sighed, thinking this day had not started the way I was expecting it to however knowing that it could have been worse.

"Sorry Elektra"

"It's fine Jake, just get in the car."

When I finally walked to my car, the trio were already making themselves comfortable and ready for the drive ahead.

Three down, one more to go, I thought.

We were picking up my friend Lex on the way to school. He was human like me and knew about the existence of shifters because his mom had once fallen in love with one. She let him go when he found his mate, knowing how important they are to shifters, however from their union Lex was born, a human in all its form but with traces of wolf DNA.
