Sarah's POV

Victoria

The name was like acid in my mouth and it left a horrible after taste. The woman was an aberration, an evil that scarred the world everywhere it went without signs of ever stopping.

The woman in question stood in all her glory, dark coloured robes covering her like a veil over a precious object that needed to be preserved. A smirk was firmly placed on her face, it appeared knowing, as if she had uncovered a secret and was keeping it to herself. Her age and appearance were not the most deceiving trait about her yet they were the ones that shocked the most. Though she appeared to be in her mid twenties, she was in fact over a hundred years old. The dark magic in which she delved assured her immortality and kept her young and healthy.

Her smirk widened as she took in my appearance, that of my mate's and the numerous dead bodies that surrounded us.

"My oh my, you are in quite a predicament." She pointed out as her smirk widened in satisfaction and amusement.

My lips curled over my canines as I growled menacingly at her.

"Now, now, that's a rude way to greet a friend you haven't seen in a few years." She shook her head disapprovingly.

Friend? We were never friends

The words were yelled in my mind as I thought them yet I knew she would be able to understand me. Though I could not speak in my wolf form, Victoria had the ability to listen to others thoughts, though she was only able to do so when speaking with shifters.

"True. We are very different people. You protect not only your kind but humans as well, whilst I prefer to use them as toys until I get bored and eventually throw them away... or kill them."

I'm going to kill you

"You can try but I believe history has proven that you cannot in fact kill me." I took a step towards her, ready to prove her wrong. "Besides, you wouldn't want to kill the only person that knows what is happening to your sweet little mate, would you?"

The statement stopped me in my tracks, every word playing and replaying in my mind before rage overpowered my senses.

"WHAT DID YOU DO TO HER?"

My voice was loud and powerful, my anger merging with Silver's, making it mostly noise rather than spoken words. Victoria flinched at the sudden outburst.

Giving me another disapproving look, she allowed the smirk to return to her face before speaking once more.

"I did nothing at all." I growled in frustration. "That is the honest truth in this case. Though I would have loved to have been given the opportunity to damage your mate to my hearts content, and effectively hurt you in the process, I'm sad to say I was not at fault for your mate's berserk mode."

Though evil she was, Victoria was never one to fear judgement and she took pride in her destruction and chaos, which meant she did not shy away from informing everyone of her mischief. It was this fact that made me certain she was speaking the truth.

If you know what is happening to my mate, then tell me

Victoria looked to Elektra, a sudden emotion crossing her features yet it was gone as quickly as it came. Once her eyes returned to me her expression was back to one of amusement.

"I'm afraid Elektra has lost control of the beast that dwells within her. I must admit I'm surprised. Last time I saw her, she was doing everything in her power to keep the beast shackled and caged yet now... well, she did not lose control as much as she gave herself over to the beast, unlocking the door herself and inviting it in."
