Sarah's POV

Translation: If you want to stay by my side, you are going to have to let me go

Every fibre of my being was screaming at me to contradict her, to fight against her decision but I knew better. If I wanted to be accepted by my mate then I would have to watch her destroy herself.

Pushing my body off the bed and forcing myself into Alpha mode, I replied "I'm coming with you."

No other words were required as we made our way out the door, towards a very confused looking Jason, whom upon seeing the look in my eyes, quickly moved forward and onto the hospital wing.

It did not take long to reach our destination, silence hanging over us like a life sentence. This however, is quickly erased from our minds the closer we get to the door; the screams that filled the room and rocked the building to its foundations making it impossible to focus on anything else. The anguish in each scream makes us stop and hesitate, fearful of what we may find inside. The agonising cries could easily be mistaken for those of someone that is being ripped apart, limb by limb and then tortured further for entertainment until there was no more breath left in them.

I chance a glance at Elektra, frozen in time and it is then that I realise that losing your mate must feel exactly like you are losing chunks of yourself.

Shocked out of her trance by yet another scream, Elektra moves swiftly towards the door, pushing it open and entering in one graceful move. Hesitating for a further second, I enter behind her.

The sight before us is nothing short of chaotic and shock inducing.

We were first greeted by the same wails; raw and broken, loud enough to drown out any other sound within a mile. The teenage boy thrashing against the hands that held him down, tears streaming down his face, madness and horror written in his features as if he was reliving a nightmare, was the second thing we took notice of.

There was no pause between the screams of loss leaving his lips, no need for air as he filled the room with a constant stream of heart wrenching wails that brought tears to even the most ruthless of shifters.

"Jake"

The word was swallowed by yet another scream from the aforementioned youth.

No one registered our presence, no one took their eyes away from the horrific scene in front of them, so caught up were they in their own helplessness.

It was as if they wanted to help, to put a stop to his torture but they could not think of anything that could ever soothe the wound of having lost one's mate.

With yet another yell, Jake attempted to sit up on the bed and jump towards the window but four sets of hands held him down in a display of incredible power.

As Elektra watched in tears, her childhood friend being mentally broken by his loss and pain, I began to take notice of the men keeping the young soon to be Alpha in check.

On his left hand side stood Beta Nathan; a large man that had the eyes of a lost and fearful pup as he gazed down as his best friend's son, knowing the boy would never be the same joyful youth.

Directly opposite him, on the right hand side, stood my Delta Simon, his body tense in concentration. His eyes were steady, calm and collected but behind it all you could see he felt for the boy and prayed to the Goddess that the teenager would recover from his loss. My heart swelled in pride at Simon's actions and sympathy towards a member of another pack.

In front of Simon, stood a man in his mid forties with light brown hair tied up in a ponytail and shockingly familiar, piercing green eyes. The depth and wisdom reflected in them seemed misplaced somehow, as if he was centuries old as opposed to the age he physically appeared to be. I could not tell who he was and assumed that he belonged to our hosting pack despite never having seen him before on pack grounds. There was something different about him, unique but I could not pin-point exactly what that was. I shook my head to push away my curiosity and registered that, as with the other two, he had a hold on the boy, restricting his movements so to prevent the youth from hurting himself or others.
