We all sat frozen, momentarily stunned by what Jake had said. It wasn't unheard of for packs to be attacked by rogues, but our pack, the Blue Moon Pack was the third biggest in the country and anyone would be crazy to attack us... unless they knew they wouldn't lose. This thought almost brought me to my knees, something was wrong, this was too sudden.
"There is a pack of 20 rogues on our borders rapidly approaching us. The pack warriors have already been sent out to stop them along with Beta Nathan and my father. The rest of the fighter wolves have put up a perimeter here at school and around the pack houses, now we just wait."
I looked around the cafeteria at the many wolves that sat in different tables and they all had the same expression in their faces, fear. Their families were out there whether fighting the rogues or at the houses, we knew that we were strong but a rogue attack is always cause for apprehension. The humans had no idea what was happening and went about their normal lives.
I spoke up, in a calm voice at a normal tone knowing that every shifter in the cafeteria would hear my words. "We are a strong pack, great fighters and a great Alpha, we need to trust that they will do their best to protect us and our families. We are far from weak, powerful in mind and body, we will win."
It wasn't the best speech but it seemed to work. As I looked around I could see sighs of relief and anxiety leaving their bodies, though they were still apprehensive, they now were not as frightened.
"Thanks El."
I looked around the table at the pups I had grown to call family to see fear, fear for their families. They wanted to fight, to be out there but couldn't. They could only hope, they had faith that their loved ones would be safe so they stayed put.
When did they become so mature?
I smiled at that, they grew up in the blink of an eye, I wish I had that strength, that faith, sometimes I wish I was like them. The reality was that I wasn't, I was human and weak. I had seen someone I loved die in front of my eyes once and I could do nothing to help, to save him... I couldn't go through that again.
I got up from the table and excused myself, saying that I was going to the bathroom. Instead of going right towards the toilets, I went left towards the back of the school that was surrounded by a small fence. It took me 2 minutes to climb it and get to the other side which lead straight into the forest.
The minute my feet touched the ground I heard a loud howl followed by growling. Figuring it was the rogues and the rest of the pack I ran straight for it.
My feet pounded the dirt as I ran at full speed towards the fight. The forest was familiar to me, I had ran in these same woods since I was 12, it didn't take me long to reach my destination.
When the fight came into view I stopped in my tracks. There were at least 35 wolves snapping jaws at each other, trying to get any part of their opponent, some were covered in blood, it was hard to tell whether it was from their own wounds or the enemies.
It wasn't hard to distinguish which ones were the rogues... their eyes were red in colour and their fur pitch black, their eyes screamed bloodlust and anger, they were completely out of control which seemed to make them that much stronger. Our shifters stood their ground despite it, being one of the strongest packs in the country meant powerful warriors and they were proving to be just that.
I was analysing the fight when I saw one of the rogues approach a dark brown wolf with white patches throughout its fur. Its body stood at 6'6 in height, covered in muscles that stood out when he moved, its canines sharp enough to rip someone's head off in one clean bite, power emanating from him in waves...
