Chapter Twenty-Six
•Ellie's Point of View•
October 26th 2013
"Are you sure she doesn't remember you Ms. Goulding?" The doctor asked for the billionth time.
"When a person tells you they don't know who you are, it tends to stick in your brain. She forgets who I am." I rolled my eyes, still feeling incredibly hurt with the situation.
My daughter forgets who I am. My Taylor forgets who I am.
"In extreme cases, like Taylor's, individuals may completely forget who they are. Generally, this is a more severe type of amnesia known as global or generalized amnesia. However, memory loss can also be selective or categorical, manifested by a person's inability to remember events related to a specific events." The second doctor went off, and I didn't understand a single word that was said.
"I didn't go to University to become a doctor, dammit. Give me easy words I might actually be able to understand." I asked curtly not in the mood to enjoy a adult conversation.
"In severe amnesia cases like Taylors, she's forgotten who she is, and her memory loss has been selective and she only remembers certain events or people that hold a important place in her heart and brain." The first doctor simplified for me.
"Then why the hell did she forget about me?! Not to be self-centred, but seriously." I replied, even more livid.
"Her most important part of the brain was damaged. Her thoughts of you were most likely around there. She remembered Sam right away so she should remember about you soon." The other one reasoned and I looked to my right to see Sam sat in a chair beside me, looking at me worriedly.
"She remembered you?!" I asked Sam astounded, "This isn't fair! I just wanted to tell her I loved her but since she doesn't even remember who I am, I can't." I sighed unhappily.
"Look. This should be fixed in a couple of days. We're going to have our nurses bring certain pictures of important things to jog her memory. For instance, we're going to get pictures of Seattle in there and see if she remembers anything about it, we're going to get pictures of instruments and see if she remembers that she can play them, and more importantly, we're showing Taylor pictures of the two of you together in hopes she can remember your relationship." The doctor told me trying to get some hope back into my heart.
"Ellie and I were told she had slight amnesia? why is her case so severe all of a sudden?" Sam asked and I had to admit, I was just as confused on that subject.
"We had scanned her brain yesterday but it didn't tell us much, so we assumed she only had a slight amnesia. When she woke up she didn't know who she was, and that came as a shock to all of our staff who was working on Taylor's case. We'll be taking her in for another CT scan later today, we believe she hit her head not once but twice, the second hit doing more damage." The doctor explained and I put my head in my hands. This is my fault.
"How much more damage do you think the second hit had done?" I asked waiting for the worst.
"We believe she was thrown out of a moving vehicle, she had already been out cold prior to be being thrown out of the vehicle and landing on her head causing further damage we couldn't see yesterday with her being in a coma." His words made my heart fall even further, Taylor had been thrown out of a vehicle causing her to forget about everything other than Sam, so far.
"Before she goes in for her second CT scan, can we see her?" Sam asked and the doctors looked at each other, obviously trying to telepathically think of a way to tell us something important.
