Y/N wanted to scream for help, but she knew it would only result in misfortunes, such as her getting killed. But someone in this convenience store would get killed. She had a feeling. At that moment she heard uncontrollable sobbing in the corner. She peeked over the aisles to check for Kevin, and he seemed to be ignoring the cries, picking up random packages and flipping them around, reading the ingredients.

The man dressed in black also perked his head up, alert. He rushed to the sound, and Y/N knew that whoever was crying was his target. She eyed him warily, keeping track of his movement before storming over to Kevin. "Hey. Kevin. Go outside. Now," she ordered in a serious tone. "You, employee, get out too," She pointed sternly to the entrance. Terrified, the cashier stumbled out. Kevin gazed at Y/N worriedly. Whenever she was serious about something, a horrible event would occur. He knew that all too well from the mistakes she made in the past that caused her mother to get riled up and beat her to near death.

"I'm not leaving," he argued. "This isn't the time to be stubborn, Kevin. This isn't the right time! Do it next time, okay? Do it at school. I'll see you in school later, so go ahead first. Employee, ma'am, go as far away from here as possible," Y/N said in a loud voice. Kevin sighed and nodded. He knew he didn't have a right to be stubborn at this moment. He had to trust her. "Promise you'll see me in school, okay?" He lifted his hand up for the traditional pinky-swear. She hesitated. "Promise...? Isn't that too strong of a word?" She weakly said. But instead of continuing, she nodded. "Promise." She pinky-promised before leaving him outside and hurrying back.

Y/N followed the man in black to the icecream section of the store. There was a child, all bruised up, huddled in the corner and bawling. The man removed the gun from his back jean pocket. "You disgrace! You disgrace of a son," He raised the gun and aimed it at the child, who was shrieking and crying shrilly. She couldn't watch a child die in front of her eyes. She knew that something was up with the man! She marched forward and yanked the man back. The man clad in all black staggered and turned around, pointing the gun straight at her forehead. The gun's cold metal pressed against her head.

Y/N lifted up both hands in surrender. She looked behind him and to the child, who was quickly standing up. She hastily flicked her eyes to the door and back to the child, who immediately understood and scurried off. Then she threw a punch at the man, who was hit square in the jaw. She continued kicking and punching at him wildly. "You horrible person! Why would you point a gun at a child!" She yelled as she flung the man to the ground. But the man wasn't fazed. In fact, he was laughing.

What Y/N didn't know was that Kevin was waiting outside, having no idea what was going on inside the convenience store. The employee had obeyed and was gone somewhere, probably to alert the police. He saw the child with tear-stained cheeks running out and slipping into an alleyway, where the kid hid behind a trash bin, all cramped up.

He bit his bottom lip. Was Y/N really okay? He took a step inside but then heard the shot of a gun. In horror, he shouted her name. "Y/N!!" He ran inside as quickly as he could, barging past the aisles and shelves, not caring if he broke any of them. He discovered Y/N curled up on the floor, blood pooling around her and spreading from a wound on her stomach. A man in black heaved himself up and lowered his cap, running out. Kevin wanted to chase after him, beat him up for what he'd done to Y/N, but he couldn't leave her side. Not now.

"Y/N. Y/N! You have to wake up. Wake up now. Didn't you promise? You pinky-promised you'd see me in school today. That you'd go to school with me. Remember all the plans we had? To ditch school, run off, have fun?" Kevin propped the limp body of Y/N in his arms and tears snaked down his cheeks like bullets. Fast and burning. It hurt to cry. It hurt to breathe. Y/N was unconscious, and blood was everywhere. On the floor, her clothes, his shoes... Even the gummy bear package that he had thrown to her that had slipped out of her jacket pocket.

Kevin took out his modern cellphone and punched in her mother's number and the police.

By the time the ambulance came, he knew that Y/N wouldn't wake up. Not ever. Kevin cried and couldn't stop crying as Y/N was taken to the hospital with him riding the ambulance with her in it. He couldn't stop. No matter how hard he tried to stop, he couldn't. He couldn't forgive himself for going inside sooner.

"Y/N, please wake up!"
