I pulled out the hairband with satisfaction at my extremely short hair. I evened the sides out with the scissors, snipping off stray hair. I brushed my new hairstyle delicately with my old plastic comb that had bristles that got snagged in my hair constantly. "Moon University*, here I come!" I crowed in triumph as I studied myself in the smudged mirror hung up on the mirror by a nail lodged into the wall. I tucked my hair behind my ear, then frowned at the feminine imagine it displayed and took out the strands of hair from behind my ear and let it overlap. "Better," I proudly smiled to myself before dusting off my male uniform I was wearing. I adjusted the striped tie and brushed off any lint from the fashionable black jacket lined with gold imprints that was required for the University.

*Moon University is completely made-up!

I picked up a beautiful framed photo of my mother. She was smiling in the picture, and the setting was at the beach, which was the exact place where she had visited before she died. This was one year ago, and although I was still sorrowful about her death at a young age, I had to fulfill one promise I made with her before I completely let go of the last traces of her embedded in me. I had to attend the all-male University, Moon University, because of it's high-class education that only males and rich/intelligent people could be admitted into. My mother wanted me to study at a very good college to be successful in life, and she knew how much I wanted to be a musician and learn about so many aspects of the music world. Moon University was the one of the only Universities in Korea that was solely based on music. I had promised my mother with my heart to enter Moon University and graduate it from it with high grades and great friends. That was the least I could do for her, since I had been a horrible child while she was alive, getting unimaginably bad grades and causing trouble for teachers.

It was a surprise I managed to squeeze into Moon University and lying about my gender. I smiled brightly, practicing my smiles in the mirror and practicing my manners so I wouldn't get booted out of college. I had a snappy attitude and wasn't one to tolerate bad behaviors. I cleared my throat. I hoped I didn't appear too much like a girl. I buttoned up my jacket and slung my backpack over my left shoulder. I had my packed suitcase in my free hand. My mother had handed her money leftover to me so I could attend an expensive, great college. I couldn't put this opportunity to waste, nor could I disappoint my mother, who left me with this money that I had to use for some good. I marched out the door of my bedroom, clearing my head of any pestering doubts and questions. I hopped down the flight of stairs and headed out the door, calling out to the vacant house, "I'm going, mother!" Then I jogged outside and slammed the door behind me cheerfully.

I waved my hand for a taxi, and once a taxi screeched to a halt next to me, I swung open the door and slipped inside, shocked that there was already someone inside. "Sorry!" I bowed my head apologetically with a sheepish smile and retreated out the open door, embarrassed that I had accepted the ride without consideration. "Young man, come back. You both are wearing the same uniform! Aren't you going to Moon University too?" The taxi driver leaned back and beckoned to me with a flick of his finger. "I- I'm not a bo-" I stopped myself, remembering that I had to pretend to be of the opposite gender. I flashed a smile awkwardly to the male student inside that was gazing out the window without attention to me. "Well, yes. I'm going to Moon University!" I nodded and slid into a seat next to the other student, hauling in my suitcase decorated with stickers.

After the taxi began running again, I prodded the boy next to me. "Excuse me, what's your name?" I asked.

"Kevin. Kevin Moon. A.K.A the son of the founder of Moon University."
