"Why do I have to do this stupid freaking job?" Y/N groaned. It was Christmas, and she was alone. Again.

She envied the couples and the families that passed by her, laughing and rejoicing together. Y/N didn't have a lover, nor a very welcoming family to be with for Christmas. Every year, no matter what holiday, she would be spending time alone in her messy apartment room and eating cheap instant noodles in front of the TV.

To pay for her monthly rent, she had to get a job. But finding a decent job was difficult because of her poor attendance in college, as well as school in general. Her grades weren't sufficient enough to be a businesswoman or an office worker. She had to resort to small tasks, such as working part-time at a fast-food restaurant and delivering food on a motorcycle to houses in the middle of the night.

Y/N regretted accepting the job she had recently volunteered for. She had to dress up as a hideous mascot for some failing store and hand out an entire stack of flyers before the end of Christmas. Her boss told her that she wouldn't be getting paid unless she managed to hand out all of her flyers (which was more than you'd think) before Christmas was over.

It was currently nighttime, with the stars twinkling high in the sky and the clouds dispersing to let the moon shine through. The wind was no joke- it was enough to make Y/N's teeth chatter and regret not wearing more layers of clothing. The costume didn't help her condition very much either. She felt suffocated inside of it and was always desperate for air after around ten minutes of endlessly shoving flyers into people's hands.

Y/N didn't have good progress. Lots of people passed her, but nobody was willing to take the flyers. She tried throwing some and forcefully giving some to people, but they would always drop it on the ground and make her have to chase after it. "This sucks," She grumbled as she decided to take a break.

She took off the bulky, oversized head of the costume. She blew out a sigh of contempt when the weight disappeared off the top of her head. She slumped down onto the ground, leaning against a brick wall. The wind lashed at her face, skimming past her skin and tickling her hair. Y/N's cheeks and nose were a light red shade, and she felt as if icicles were forming on her lips.

"I should get back to work," She yawned and heaved herself to her feet. She inhaled one more breath of fresh air before fitting the mask back onto her head. She flapped the stack of flyers. "People better freaking get these flyers before I yank someone's hair," She grouched. She paced around, trying to hand out flyers to passerby, but to no avail.

Soon, the wind picked up unexpectedly. All of her papers slipped out of her hands and blew around in the air in a flurry. "Are you freaking serious?!" Y/N hollered behind her stuffy mask. She scrambled around, the heavy suit preventing her from running fast. She lost most of her papers in the winter breeze, but she managed to gather some of the ones that were rolling on the ground.

She crouched along the sidewalk once the wind died down. She crawled around, grabbing the flyers that she could find. She bumped her head into someone's legs.

"Hey! Watch where you're going!" She snapped angrily. She was already frustrated by the stuffy costume, being alone for Christmas, and having to chase flying papers in horrid weather.

When she got no response, Y/N glanced up. In front of her was a young male holding some of her flyers that had escaped before. He was quite good-looking, she had to admit, but she couldn't be thinking about that now!

He had a kind smile on his face as he gave me the rest of the flyers. "Here," He said in a soft voice. His visible breath floated into the air and diminished into the sky. "Thanks," She curtly said, not expressing much gratitude despite that one word she had spoken.

She grabbed the flyers out of his hands, mumbling something under her breath. She hauled herself to her feet and turned away, dusting snow off of her costume. "Jeez, can this day get any worse?" She whispered to herself, ignoring the fact that the boy was still standing there, watching her with intense brown eyes.

When he continued to stand there, she finally became irritated by his presence.

"Excuse me, do you need somethin-"

She was cut short of her words when the boy placed two hands on either side of the mask. It was pulled off of her head smoothly and placed onto the icy ground. "Hey! What'd you do that for?!" Y/N shrilly complained, bending down to pick the mask back up. She wrapped her hands around the round mask and hoisted it under her arms. "Do you have a problem with this?" She asked, pointing directly to the mask in her arms.

The boy simply stared.

"No? Then leave me alone," Y/N spat at him. She was about to turn and leave him there when she felt a hand on her arm yank her back. "Hey!" She yelped, flailing her arms wildly. The mask fell out of her grasp and rolled on the ground.

"Have this," He finally spoke.

He took off his crimson red scarf from his neck and hooked it around hers. "You must be cold," He added, carefully raveling it around her neck. It loosely hung from my neck as Y/N looked up at him in puzzlement. "Why are you giving me this?" Y/N questioned, arching a brow with skepticism.

"First of all, I'm not your lover. Second of all, I don't want some used scarf. I'd rather buy my own than accept one from a stranger. Especially a good-looking one. It'll be too cliche at that point," Y/N shook her head shamelessly, blurting out whatever was on her mind without a second thought.

But by the time she finished her sentence, the boy had disappeared.
