Once upon a time, there were two people that were practically famous for being enemies. Their names were Hyunjae and Y/N. They weren't just normal competitors battling to be number one. They were like hostile lions ready to launch flurries of attacks at each other.

They knew each other from childhood, and never liked each other one bit. Hyunjae was well-off and rich, while Y/N was poor and living among even poorer people. They first encountered each other on the road that both connected and separated the poor and the rich. Her family used to be in charge of a very well-known company before it went bankrupt and caused her family to suffer financially. That's when they had to live in shabby conditions. Her family didn't know who was responsible, and randomly blamed Y/N for being poor. That's the start of her rebellious acts, while Hyunjae began his good-kid acts. He had been spoiled and always rubbed his money in other people's faces, until he was given a scolding and forced to be academically smart and well-mannered.

Y/N had been running away from someone with a wallet clutched in her hand that had been pick-pocketed from a rich person strolling down the road in between the territory of the rich and poor. She then collided into Hyunjae, who was also out for a walk, and then was caught by the person that she had stolen the wallet from. After getting lectured and let off (because she was only a child then), she tried taking Hyunjae's money dangling out of his pocket. But her hand had been slapped away by him so she failed her attempt. Angry, Y/N punched him, and the two got into a fierce tussle that involved a lot of kicks and punches to the jaw.

The two attended the same elementary school every year. They had the same classes together every single time, and they never appreciated being stuck next to each other during assigned seating. They, for some reason, always happened to be paired together for projects. Y/N always slacked off, talked back to the teacher, got in trouble, went to detention, got suspended, received bad grades, hung out with the wrong people, went on mysterious adventures, and then developed a habit if hitting Hyunjae whenever she got the chance. Hyunjae had endured her shouts and arguments and all of the pain from her strikes without a word. He basically got used to her annoying presence, and she got used to his.

They stopped quarreling (more like Y/N) for a period of time and went off to do their own things. Over the time they didn't talk, Y/N recognized her fondness for him. She planned to confess, but knowing she would be rejected. But the day she wanted to spill all her thoughts and emotions, he declared he would be moving. After that day, he disappeared without a trace and didn't show signs of coming back.

"Where's Hyunjae?" Y/N blurted out to her friends, who gave one another irritated glances. She quizzically looked at them. "Y/N, I told you! I told you so! I told you that you were completely infatuated with him, but you ignored me!" One of her friends, Min, exclaimed. Y/N glared at her. "And where'd you learn that word?" She huffed. Min suddenly switched from agitated to shy and timid. She smiled sheepishly. "From Hyunseok, my boyfriend," She proudly stated. "Did I ask?!" Y/N snapped. Her friends flinched at her attitude. "Actually, you did-" Min was interrupted. "Don't speak!" Y/N barked.

"Now tell me, where's Hyunjae?" Y/N demanded. Min scrunched up her face and glimpsed at her friends, who merely shrugged and sealed their lips. "Remember? He moved-" Again Min was cut off by Y/N's impatience. "I said shut up. Now answer my question," She coldly commanded. Min gritted her teeth. She didn't know what to do in that situation. "He moved!" She yelled before grabbing the arms of the other girls and fleeing. Then she remembered. Y/N groaned to herself and mentally slapped herself in the cheek for her stupidity. Did she seem that clingy? Why was she always asking for him? She rubbed her eyes as if it'd remove the thoughts of Hyunjae that flooded her mind as she flopped down in her chair.

Y/N always pestered Hyunjae, and as she recalled those memories when she would always bother him by hitting him or forcing something out of him. She chuckled at the thoughts before she slipped out her phone from her pocket. She unlocked the device with her fingerprint and swiped through her photos. She realized she had millions of prank photos of Hyunjae that she had planned to blackmail him with. It took up most of her storage, and she rolled her eyes at her idiocy. Why waste such valuable and precious storage for a goody-two-shoes like Hyunjae? He always got her in trouble by tattling on her to the teacher, and she never witnessed him do anything truly horrible, which got on her nerves. He was too... Nice.

She deleted all of the photos of Hyunjae from her camera roll with a sigh before putting her phone back into her jean pocket. Why was she obsessing over him after his absence? It's been a month since he left, and yet she's still hanging onto him. Y/N ran a hand through her tangled hair, yanking and pulling at the knots to relieve her stress. Her friends were truly not her friends, and only befriended her to do the stupid things they did outside of school. Even though Hyunjae barely even talked to her and merely just snorted or glowered at her, he was the only one that put up with her. Y/N's friends just ran off because they were terrified of her temper.

Yeah... She had to admit she missed him.

One year later of Y/N feeling that unwanted loneliness, she began to forget about him. She began to erase all the memories she had with him, no matter how good or bad. She did, until one day he came back. How? Why? She didn't know. She didn't want to know. But on that day that Hyunjae returned, she had partially plucked him out of her mind. Some parts of her still yearned and hoped, but the other parts gave up. She scolded herself for foolishly chasing after him and denying to herself that she had been childish. She decided to stop, since he was gone.

But in class, the teacher introduced Hyunjae to the students. Some recognized him from last year, but the others just stared out the window in a bored manner. Y/N perked up at the sound of the familiar name and turned her head to Hyunjae, who was scanning them all with his squinting eyes. He was wearing glasses and his hair had become longer than the last time she saw him. Was that really Hyunjae? She questioned her eyesight as she craned her neck forward to see better. His eyes settled on hers and she lurched back in surprise at their eye contact. "Hyunjae, why don't you sit next to Y/N? She may be trouble. After a while, you can move," The teacher signaled to the empty desk next to me. I grunted.

He walked over to me leisurely in a laid-back way. Y/N peered over to him as he sat down with a heave of a sigh. He opened up his backpack and took out all of his newly bought workbooks. "H-Hyunjae?" She stammered, still not believing her eyes. Everything was so rushed. she didn't know how to react. After a year, he comes back magically. As if nothing happened! "Hm?" He turned to her. Y/N blinked rapidly. "It's really you?" She gawked in disbelief. "Uh, yes?" He confusedly looked at her, furrowing his eyebrows. He looked slightly different with his black-rimmed glasses and the change of hairstyle, but it definitely was him.

"Remember me? I'm Y/N! The girl you always fought with. My gosh, it's been so long. You know, last year, I wanted to confess to you. But haha, that's so long ago... I don't feel that way for you anymore." She nearly choked on her own lies. He opened his mouth to speak, but she chimed in cheerfully, "It's embarrassing to mention, but I kinda missed you. You were so dumb but smart at the same time. Like, you barely talked to me after childhood, but you still sat next to me in high school! I was happy to be frank. But dang, long time no see. You're probably still a goody-two-shoes, eh?" She placed a hand on his shoulder with a laugh.

Hyunjae looked at her weirdly and brushed off her hand. Y/N raised an eyebrow. "What is wr-" This time it was Y/N who was cut off.

"Do I know you?"
