"Hey, Y/N!" I heard a familiar voice call out my name. I turned around and spotted Chanhee, my closest friend since elementary school, came walking towards me leisurely. "Hi!" I greeted him in return. I was waiting at an old, rickety bus station that wasn't too far of a sprint from my house. I assumed he was here to ride the same bus as me, unless he was going to a different destination. Probably not, though, since we have school today.

I sat down on a wooden bench, and it creaked under my weight. "Ha, you're that heavy it creaks," Chanhee sat down next to me, and I was amazed it didn't shift or produce any sickening noises when he plopped down on the jagged surface of the sloppily smoothed and carved out wood. "Shut up," I puffed out my cheeks ignorantly. "Hey, you realize today's Pepero Day right?" He asked with an unflinching smile was present on his face as he mentioned it. "Ugh don't remind me," I facepalmed.

Every Pepero Day in my homeroom class, the students would vote who the best couples within those students are/should be and would force them to perform the Pepero challenge in front of them all. The Pepero challenge was when two people would bite the ends of one Pepero stick and continue eating their side. In my class, the couples would compete against one another to have the shortest length possible. One time, I heard, that a voted couple kissed accidentally when fulfilling the challenge. I never was competitor, and I never had high hopes to be one. After all, there was practically no one to ship me with, since I avoided most guys (since almost all of them are annoying as hell or plain out rude) except for Chanhee, who I knew since we were young, naive kids.

He was an exception. Although he poked fun at me a lot of times, I always considered him one of my best friends since we knew so much about one another and because we lived so close to each other we walked to each other's homes whenever we wanted to. "Earth to Y/N! Stop spacing out!" Chanhee complained as he waved a hand in front of my face. Apparently I had been zoning out without me realizing. There was a large blue-coated bus that rumbled to a stop in front of us, opening the doors for the people that hustled forward to stand in one concentrated line. "Who do you think the couples would be today?" I heard him excitedly wonder. I rolled my eyes at his immaturity. "Do you really enjoy these kinds of stuff?" I exasperatedly sighed. "Yeah! It's hilarious," he giggled as we entered the bus.

I found two empty seats in the back, but in between was an elderly lady. I pouted, since I was crestfallen Chanhee and I wouldn't be able to sit next to one another. It was basically tradition for us. I sat to the left and Chanhee sat to the right if the woman, who was dozing off. I shyly tapped her shoulder twice and she snapped her head up, which caught me by surprise. "What do you want?" She retaliated verbally. Wow, she was one grumpy lady. Chanhee's chuckles were audible, and I didn't like that he was amused by this since it was so flustering for me to kindly request the elderly woman to exchange seats with me. "Well... Well... I..." I began, faltering over every word so that my voice shrank down at the end of the sentence. "Eh? Speak louder!" The woman hollered, earning stares from the passengers around us and a cry from a baby that boarded the bus with his mother.

"Ma'am, can you and me switch spots?" Even though I didn't stutter this time, I didn't have any confidence bubbling within me like I usually did. Whenever I was yelled at, I felt some sort of hurt emotion churning inside me like I did something wrong even though I didn't. The woman turned her head to the other direction and saw Chanhee peering over to me with an enthused grin. "Ah, you want to sit next to your boyfriend?" The lady's eyes softened and she toned down her volume a notch. "Well, not really a boyfriend," I quickly answered the assumption. I got that a lot. Many people believed that me and Chanhee were dating, and even if I explained multiple times, they would refuse to listen and acknowledge what I say.

"Young love. So sweet," she batted her eyelashes at me. I smiled awkwardly back at her. "So can I sit next to him now?" I pointed towards him. "Yes darling," the elderly woman nodded curtly and slowly stood up onto her feet and I stood up almost immediately after she shuffled over to me. I waited until she was safely sitting down before I swerved around her dangling feet and sat down next to Chanhee. "Why didn't you yell at her that we weren't dating like you do to everyone else?" He laughed, clearly amused by the whole situation. His expression irked me. "Because! She's a sweet old lady and I have no energy to yell anymore!" I whispered angrily back. "Aw, is it because you actually developed feelings for me?" He teased.

"Shut up!" I stomped on his foot.

We arrived to school not even 15 minutes later. I guessed there was no traffic today. I abandoned Chanhee at the entrance and went straight to the room because I couldn't handle him pestering me. Everyone was in a fuss at homeroom because of Pepero Day. After Chanhee came in in a rush, everyone settled down. The class president, who approved of this little game, sashayed to the front and cleared her throat, getting everyone's attention. "Any suggestions for couples?" Was the first thing she asked, and everyone became rambunctious. It annoyed me, since I was trying to study for an upcoming test we had in Math. "Raise your hand!" The president barked. People quieted down, but you could still hear their hushed voices.

One hand then shot up after countless head bobs in agreement to what he had said. "Yoon Seungri and Ha Minsoo!" He yelled, and everyone cheered. The two stepped forward and dragged their feet behind them out of embarrassment as they trudged to the front. "Chang Jisoo and Park Chani!" Another raised their hand and flailed it around. The two proudly walked forward, hand in hand. "Last one!" The student president hollered, slamming her hands onto the board. Thankfully all of this was before the bell even rang so the teacher couldn't see such absurd behavior.

A hand flew up. It was Chanhee. I eyed him warily. Please don't do something stupid.

"Me and Y/N!"
