“I think we should go find this guy and introduce ourselves Lily!” April exclaims and all the happiness inside me drops. I look at April and she smiles at me as they both get up to their feet “Hellz yeah, fresh meat and by the sounds of it a guy who’s willing to fight his woman….my kind of man!” Lily says and looks after at me
“Bye Brook. We promise to say hi to your friend once we find him and maybe put in a good word for you!” I fake smile at them
“Thanks” I say with sarcasm and that’s when they walked off leaving me shattered yet again and knowing that they’ll sleep with him and I won’t take seconds.
I sigh and Jamal reaches over for my hand and grabs it, squeezing it gently. I look at him as I bite my lip “its okay Brook. Us guys will look after you” I smile at him
“Thanks J. I know you guys have got my back” the boys walk over and engulf me in a group hug and we laugh
“You know Brook if you ever need us to help you with anything. We would” Felix says flirtatious like and I blush at him when I realise what they’re offering
“You know maybe your first should be a friend that way there’s no weirdness?” he says as he straddles the bench chair we’re sitting on.
My face goes bright red and I look down and fumble with my fingers. Does he not think I haven’t already thought of that and I had but I couldn’t do it? I wouldn’t want to ruin the friendship we hold “Felix as nice as that would be and I’d love for you all to help me out but I hold our friendship to close to my heart to ruin what we have as friends” he smirks
“Hey, I had to put it out there. You know?!” and I nod at him
“I know and thank you” I kiss his cheek and he acts all giddy and we laugh at his actions.
Then he leans in and whispers “You know my boy Jamal here would do anything for you?” I look at Jamal and he’s looking at us strangely. Properly wondering what we’re saying. I look at Felix and whisper back “I don’t think that’s a possibility anymore” he looks at me and he looks shocked “What? Oh come on Brook. It was a huge mistake and he knows that and so should you” I look at Jamal who looks so innocent and cute at the same time and yes I’ve dreamt of the day that he’d kiss me and sweep me off my feet but I don’t know if it’s what I want anymore?
“I don’t know Felix. I like it the way things are between us” he nods “I get it and it’s cool but the offer still stands okay?” I laugh at him and he quickly hugs me and goes runs up to Max and tackles him.
Jamal watches me for a while as I finish my lunch and he leans over “Wanna go for a walk?”
“Sure” I say smiling.
I grab my things and go throw away my rubbish. Jamal offers me his arm and I hook mine in his and rest my head on his arm since he’s way taller than me. Jamal tells Max and Felix we’re going for a walk and they give us the okay before returning back to their play fight. Jamal and I walk for a while just not saying a word and this is why I knew we would’ve been good for each other. We’re so much alike. “So Jamal, what did you do over the holidays?” he looks down at me and blushes which means he hooked up and doesn’t want to tell me
“I um… I meet someone” he says quietly and we keep walking and I don’t let my grip go
“That’s nice. Is she from here?” I ask and he chuckles
“No! Thank god” we stop and I look at him with a questionable face
“Why?”
“Well at first I thought she was sweet and nice but after I took her out on a date she turned into this clingy chick. She wanted us to hang almost 24/7” I start to laugh as I know Jamal wouldn’t have had the heart to say anything mean to her so he would have just put up with it
“What?’ he says bumping shoulders with me
“Oh Jamal. You put up with her all holidays didn’t you…you couldn’t tell her could you?” he looks at me and starts to laugh
“I’m not mean Brook. It’s just not mean to be like Felix or Max so yeah I put up with her all holidays” I grip his arm harder and then he continues “But I did sleep with another girl. One I’d found who was really nice and well one thing lead to another and…..” he pauses looking at me waiting for me to react but I smile at him
“I’m glad you’re happy Jamal. So where does she live?”
“Not here and we broke it off before I left. I told her I can’t do long distance relationships and I told her I actually liked someone else back home. I mean we only hung out a few times and I liked her, like really liked her and well we have sex once! She said she’d call but I haven’t heard from her. Maybe I scared her off? But I don't mind, it wasn't anything serious” I stop and look up into Jamal brown eyes and I shake my head
“Nah that’s not it. I bet she just wishes you could have been more for longer. You’re a great guy Jamal. You deserve to be happy” he stops and cups my face.
His hot breath on my cheek as he starts to breath rapidly “Brook” he whispers as he looks down at my lips and up to my eyes and I can’t help but notice that my heart is racing.
OMG WTH is happening? I look into his eyes and I see his face leaning in and our lips are almost touching. I hold my breath for a moment wondering if he’s going to do it or not but then we hear “Jamal! Brook!” we pull apart and look back over at April and Lily who are bouncing this way.
