We were laughing loudly when my dad walked in the house at 7pm. I'd done my home and was almost done Jasper's when he walked in. I'd stopped briefly to prepare dinner which Jasper insisted on helping with. We made a mess but it was clean by the time Dad arrived. We were still joking around about it when he walked in "Hello there?" he says looking at me sitting by Jasper leaning over him but helping him with his homework
"Hi Dad!" I say jumping up to give him a hug
"Hey Brook, who’s the friend?" I look at Jasper as he stands up and holds out his hand
"Dad, this is my friend Jasper from school. He came and helped Emily and I with homework and now I'm helping him?" I shrug.
They shake hands "Nice to meet you sir" Jasper says politely
"It's a pleasure. Call me Greg young fella" my dad returns and I roll my eyes at my dad.
He tries and that’s all I can say. "DADDY!" Emily comes running into my dad's arms.
He picks her up and swirls her around as I check on the food which is almost cooked "Are you staying for dinner?" my dad says to Jasper and he looks at the time
"Sorry I can't. My mum would be worried, if I come home late. I should go?" he nods at him as Jasper cleans up his books and looking down at his watch
"It's almost done" i say as I walk over and help
"I know and thanks"
"Happy to help" he gives me a smile before throwing his bag over his shoulder
"Thanks for everything B and it was nice meeting you Mr Waters, um I mean Greg and Emily" dad cringes at the formality of his name then returns to normal when he hears his name
"Anytime son" I walk him out and Emily and Dad stand there watching like weirdos.
I shake my head as we walk outside "So thanks for helping Emily today?" he laughs
"She's a good kid so anytime!" I smile back
"Thanks Jasper so um.... maybe we'll have to finish the conversation we started earlier?" he looks at me confused
"About where you came from before here but only the more recent!" I quickly say and he chuckles
"Sure. B I can do that. Just for you!" I laugh
"Okay thanks Jasp. I'll see you tomorrow at school?"
"Sure"
"You catching the bus?"
"Guess so Jamal never called to say he'd pick me up"
"Cool, see you in the morning"
"Bye" I gave him a wave and he walked off down the road to where I believed was his house?
My dad and sister teased me about Jasper all night long, to the point I got up and went to my room. They thought they were so funny but really they were just really annoying! I lie in bed that night looking at my ceiling when my phone beeped. I look over as it was lit up with a message 'I missed you this afternoon. You okay? Am I picking you up in the morning?' I look at it and wonder why it took Jamal so long to contact me. Was he busy? Where was he? But I can't stress over it really, it's officially our 1st night as a couple. Last night didn't mean a thing, it was new so to me it didn't count. I look at the phone for a moment before typing my message
'I'm good. I missed you too, just wanted to get home and I'm okay for tomorrow Jasper and I will catch the bus!'
I click send and wait for his reply. It's almost 30 minutes later before he does reply
'Sorry was in the shower. Okay see you there. night x'
I smile at the little X at the end of his message and write back
'night x'
I put my phone on the bed side table and lay down, closing my eyes which finally let me sleep.
Emily was up and ready before me which was odd, she's never been up early - ever! "What's going on?" I ask and she smiles
"Nothing. Can I have cereal for breakfast?"
"Sure, which one?" I watch Emily think for a moment before saying
"Coco pops please"
"Good choice" I grab the bowls, spoons, milk and of course the box of coco pops and pour us each a bowl.
After breakfast I wash up the dishes and go up to get ready while Emily watches some TV. I get dressed and grab my school things before heading downstairs again this time i hear laughter but not Emily's but someone else’s "Who the hell...!" I start to scream around the wall when I see Emily and Jasper on the couch watching cartoons and laughing their little arses off.
"What's going on here?" I ask with my hands on my hips
"Oops busted!" Emily says laughing.
Jasper jumps up and grabs me puling me down to the couch to sit with them "What the...?"
"Come sit with us and chillax" he says laughing as was my sister
"Yeah Brooky. Chillax!" hearing those words coming from her mouth made me realize how much older and grown she really is but how much she can easily pick things up.
I watch them giggle as I sat back with them to watch the cartoons and mind you they were funny. We laughed over the stupidity of their actions but it was good. I look at the time after the last cartoon and realize we should be outside "Quick the bus!" i scream and we jump up frantically looking for our things which were tossed around the place.
Finally we find our bags and head for the door. I hear Emily's bus coming "Quick it's almost here"
"Okay!" she screams running out the door with Jasper and I hot on her trail.
We're all laughing as her bus stops and the doors open "Emily!" the bus driver says
"Frank!" she says right back
"How's my favourite girl today?"
"Good!"
"Thanks Frank, see you this afternoon?!" he gives me a nod
"That I will Miss Brooklyn. Bye" he closes the door and drives off.
I can't help but laugh "What a crazy morning!"
"Yep, sorry to come over so early thought I'd help with Emily?" I look at him
"I've been doing this for years now. I think I have it covered Jasper" I snap and he backs off
"Whoa there tiger!" I look at him and realize I'd snapped his head off.
I look down "Sorry" I confess
"its okay Brooklyn!" he mocks
"Really?" I say in a high tone
"Yep" he laughs before running away with me hot on his tail.
