“I missed you daddy,” Rosie wrapped her arms around her dad as he scooped her up.
“What about me?” Demi asked, fake pouting and Rosie laughed before kissing her cheek, “Have you been a good girl for Aunt Selly and Aunt Nicky?”
“She’s been a little angel,” Nick smiled, scuffing her hair.
They began to head back towards the car when Sel grabbed Demi’s hand and dragged her back to remove her from the group. She pushed Demi’s head back slightly, the scarf moving further down her neck but Demi resisted and jerked her head away, fixing the scarf, a scowl on her face.
“Was that a hickey?” Sel asked, folding her arms.
“So what?” Demi questioned, “I went on vacation with my boyfriend, what did you think we would be doing?”
“Maybe you had a little too fun,” Sel giggled and Demi shook her head at Sel’s childish thoughts with a smile on her face.
They quickly caught up to the group and Joe interlaced their fingers together, Demi smiling up at them. Sel gave Demi a knowing look and Nick did the same to Joe. It was only poor little Rosie who was clueless about what happened between her parents.
“Morning,” Demi grumbled, padding into the kitchen.
“You look rough,” Joe slid a mug of coffee her way and she took a long gulp from it, not caring about the burning sensation that filled her throat.
“Why can’t we be back in Hawaii?” Demi groaned, resting her head on her hand and Joe pecked her lips sloppily.
“We can’t live in luxury constantly babe,” Joe told her and she cursed in a slippery tone.
“That’s a dollar in the swear jar,” Rosie called from the front room and Joe and Demi gave each other a look before laughing.
“How did she hear that?” Demi questioned.
“I don’t know, she’s like my mom, hears every little thing that goes on in the house,” Joe shook his head at his daughter and kissed Demi’s head, “I’ll see you tonight babe.”
Demi nodded in agreement as Joe left the house. She grabbed a dollar from her pocket and slid it in the jar on top of the fridge before moving into the front room to see Sel reading a magazine and Rosie watching telly. Carter was giggling excessively at nothing in his bouncy seat and Demi couldn’t help but smile, thinking about how much she wanted one.
“I want one,” Demi sighed, collapsing next to Sel, eyes still on Carter and Sel smiled herself.
“You have me?” Rosie cut in, not liking the fact that the attention had shifted and Demi looked down at her daughter.
“I know I do,” Demi laughed, scooping her up and placing her down lightly on her knee.
“We have to get ready soon,” Demi informed her daughter and she nodded in agreement.
“I just want to finish watching Barney,” she told her mother and Demi couldn’t help but laugh about the trait she had inherited from her father.
“You’re just like you’re dad, you know that?” Demi stated, looking to her daughter.
Rosabella shot her a grin from ear to ear before pecking her Demi’s cheek and bounding upstairs as the credits rolled. Demi switched the TV off and the only thing that could be heard was Carter’s giggling. Things were definitely different without Joe around.
