“Erm, sorry honey,” Demi started, “I just don’t think it’s wise yet?”

“Why not?” she frowned.

“Yeah, why not?” Joe joined in and Demi held in a groan that she was about to release.

“I don’t think so Rosie, just not yet, soon, okay?” Demi offered and her daughter nodded eagerly, “Now why don’t you go see if your cousin Carter is alright?”

She made her way out of the water and ran along the scorching sand towards Sel and Nick opened his arms for her, scooping her up and throwing his niece over his shoulder. Demi smiled before turning to Joe who was looking at her, obviously annoyed at the choice Demi had made and she knew where this was going to go. She gave herself a mental talk and told herself to stay calm but for some reason she knew that her rage wouldn’t remain contained.

Joe couldn’t help but notice how beautiful Demi was in the sunlight and how the sun reflected off her hair. But there was something tense between them so all Joe could think about was what would happen next?

“Why won’t you let her stay over?” Joe inquired, wading deeper into the water as it only reached mid thigh on him.

Demi followed him deeper before replying simply, “Because it’s only been a week.”

“Does it matter how long it’s been, she’s still my daughter whether it’s been a week of a year,” Joe argued and Demi bit her lip as she formed an answer which wouldn’t be classed as rude.

“I wouldn’t let my daughter sleep at a stranger’s house,” Demi stated plainly, defending her parenting skills.

“Yeah but I’m not a stranger, am I Demi?” Joe had yet another answer and he was definitely beginning to get on Demi’s nerves.

“She’s only known you for a week Joe, and I don’t want a call in the middle of the night asking for me to come over because Rosie is crying and won’t sleep because she’s not used to her surroundings,” Demi quarrelled, “It happened after two weeks with my mother so it will be the same with you.”

“But she’s older now,” Joe began stopping where he was in the water, it reached about mid-chest on him but it was to Demi’s neck, “And I am her father, she has my DNA in her.”

“Why can’t you just accept my choice?” Demi finally got to the point that was bugging her, “She’s been mine for the last four years Joe, she follows my rules and as far as I’m concerned my parenting works for her and I don’t want you changing it. She’s about to start Kindergarten soon and I don’t want any issues to spring up; I don’t have time for that.”

“Than give her to me sometimes, I will be able to take some of the stress away from you,” Joe suggested and Demi groaned, putting her hand and running it through her hair in annoyance.

“She’s my daughter Joe, I decided what happens,” Demi concluded, “And that’s the end of it!”

“She’s my daughter Demi, she has my DNA, she has my features and yet she has none of yours therefore she is mine,” Joe didn’t realise what dangerous waters he had crossed and now Demi didn’t care about bottling her anger inside, she was going to say how it is and he would listen to her.

“Whose name is on the birth-certificate? Who cares for? Who provides a home for her? Who took someone else’s child in? Who does she call mommy Joe? Me and that’s because-“

Joe cut Demi off by connecting their lips together and Demi froze at the sudden action. She didn’t know what to do? What should she do?
