Unexpected // Why Don't We

Chapter 22

Hayden's pov

I pulled into the driveway and hopped out of the car. I left Ajax in the car so I could carry everything inside first. I walked in the door, and there were "hi"s and "hey"s. I set the things on the table before holding up a finger to indicate that I'd be back in one second. Taylor gave me a confused look. I went outside to my car and set Ajax on the ground. I walked back inside, and Taylor gasped.

"Did you adopt him?!" she ran up and picked him up.

"Sadly, no. Madison let me bring him home for the day. I have to take him back tomorrow," I explained.

All the guys ran up and started petting Ajax. He was loving all the attention. Taylor set him down and took his leash off. Ajax really liked Jonah, so Jonah ran around the living room and played with him.

"Why haven't you adopted him yet?" Zach asked me.

"We don't have that kind of money right now," I answered. "If we did, I would definitely adopt him."

Everyone was sitting around the living room while Jonah was still playing with Ajax. After an hour, they both got tired. Jonah plopped down on the couch next to me. I patted my legs, and Ajax jumped onto my lap. He started licking my face.

"Good boy," I smiled and ruffled his fur.

Jonah reached over and started to pet Ajax. All the guys were talking.

"You two aren't even going to be home tomorrow," Zach pouted.

"Oh, that's right. I have work, and you have dance," I looked at Taylor.

"This is going to be a hard week since we won't see you that much," Daniel sighed.

"Let's just make the most out of it," Zach said.

Jonah and I continued to pet Ajax as we talked with everyone else. Eventually, Ajax fell asleep on my lap. He was the cutest dog I had ever seen.

"You would be the best owner for him," Eben looked at me.

"I wish I was his owner," I sighed.

"You will be. One day," Taylor smiled at me.

"Hopefully sometime soon," I looked down at Ajax, who was still sound asleep.

My phone buzzed in my pocket. I pulled it out and saw that Seth had texted me.

Seth: It's been a while.
Me: Yeah. I've just been busy.
Seth: Me too. Jace and I have been hitting the soccer fields almost everyday.
Me: I've just had a lot with work. Taylor has had dance every single day, too.
Seth: Maybe we could meet up sometime?
Me: Yeah. Let me know.
Seth: I will.

I turned my phone back off and shoved it back in my pocket. Taylor cleared her throat. I looked up at her.

"Who was that?" she asked, being nosy.

"Seth," I answered blankly.

"What did he want?" she furrowed her eyebrows.

"It was anything important," I shook my head.

"Who's Seth?" Zach questioned.

"A guy that I helped find the right dog to adopt from the humane society," I replied.

"Ohhh," Zach nodded, understandingly.

I rolled my eyes and laughed.

"What?" Zach asked.

"I'm not stupid. I know why you asked me that question," I laughed.

He acted like he didn't know what I was talking about.

"You were asking because you wanted to know if he was my boyfriend," I rolled my eyes.

"What? No," he shook his head.

"Zach, shut up. She's not stupid," Jack told him.

Everyone laughed. We continued talking until about 11:30. We all decided to watch Netflix, so I put on the show Scream. Ajax woke up and went in a circle before laying back down on my lap. Jonah ruffled his fur once before looking up at the tv. We watched a while episode, and I wasn't scared, but then we got to the next one. The killer showed up, and I jumped. Ajax woke up, and Jonah wrapped his arm around me.

"You okay?" Jonah asked.

"Yeah. Just got a little scared," I laughed a little and looked at him.

I leaned into him, and Ajax moved to where he was laying across mine and Jonah's laps. We continued to watch the show until we finished about 3 episodes. The fourth episode started, and I was about to fall asleep on Jonah's shoulder.

"You should get to bed. You have work tomorrow," Jonah whispered in my ear.

I stood up, and everyone turned their attention to me.

"Where are you going?" Jack pouted.

"I have work tomorrow, and it's passed midnight," I explained. "I'm going to sleep."

Jonah picked up Ajax and followed me to my room. I sat on the edge of my bed, and Jonah handed me Ajax.

"Goodnight," he smiled.

"Goodnight," I said back as he walked out of my room and shut the door.

I laid down, and Ajax cuddled up right next to me. I really wished that I could adopt him, but I knew it wasn't going to happen anytime soon. I closed my eyes and ended up falling asleep pretty quick.
