A tired sigh left your breath as you slumped into your bed, the sheets silky soft and the smell alluring and sweet to your senses. You know you have a big day planned tomorrow, with a lot of commuting and tiresome waiting, so you tried to get to sleep. However, all you could do is stay up, staring up at the unlit ceiling, your thoughts going back to that journal and its curious contents.
Your fingers began to twist into the thin silver chained necklace you always wore around your neck, your fingers running through the tiny rose pendant that sat against your bare chest. You sighed to yourself, your mind continuing to race, and you rolled into the sheets, your left hand popping up from your side as you stared at the glistening blue sapphire gemstone perfectly placed into the thick silver ring.
You recall the effort it took for you to even hold the title, to gather your father's possessions under your own name. After all, it was only his two children that were his heirs, his third dying alongside him. Good riddance, honestly. It's your father's fault for being so desperate. So... heartless. Sure, maybe your parents drifted apart after a while, but as far as you're concerned, he's always been a promiscuous scumbag. And then your scheming aunt and her husband. You could have lost absolutely everything if your mother wasn't quick on her feet and you managed to have some common sense to back her up.
There's still a war raging, but at least most of the heat has simmered. Heck, you wouldn't be surprised if your father's death is your own aunt's doing. Maybe not, but who knows? It's not like you care... anymore.
In the end, he deserved what he got, but now you hold his title and name. His dark lineage. His curse...
Even though you seem to already be cursed anyways.
You closed your eyes, plopping your hand down onto the sheets, as a sigh left your breath. Sometimes you wish you didn't have to do this all alone. Didn't have to stand up to your father alone, confront your aunt, or even take care of both your sister and even your mother. You wish you could depend upon another. To trust them. To be their support, as they also support you. Your sister... she's sweet but... for the longest time you haven't felt complete. That's just the way it is.
You know why, but... that's all in the past, now. Nothing can change the past.
You let your mind slowly succumb to the necessary sleep, your mind floating towards your dreamless state of mind, except this time there was a dream to look forward to and remember. You just weren't expecting it.
You stood in the middle of a field. The breeze, blowing the grass and wildflowers gently while your hair felt rather stationary as you glanced around, curiously. The place was fuzzy, a bit surreal, but an overall calm and soothing feeling overcame you, and you slowly slumped down into the grass, your head plopping down into the softness as you left your mind wander...
Until you noticed a presence now lying beside you, and you couldn't help but look over, only to huff and glance away in annoyance. "What are you doing here?"
"Resting, of course," the fairly young boy stated, giving you a cheesy grin before his smile faded as his gaze continued to stare right at you. Right through you. "And you?"
"Obviously the same thing," you mumbled, your body turning to glance at him, your eyes gazing at the boy's figure as he curiously look back at you, blinking as you looked him over.
The boy was practically identical to you. Soft pale features, a slender frame, and a shortness that seems to come from your mother. In your eyes, he was a spitting image of your father in almost every single way, which meant so were you, in a more annoying way. But, there was a kindness in his bright emerald eyes that was never in your father's. He would have been the perfect son. The heir your father would have always wanted. With this boy, nothing would have been as difficult as it is now.
