It’s been two months since Nina and Ian split up. They would try to fix the problems but it wasn’t working. Despite all the fighting, they were constantly together working together and were living together and it suddenly started to get too much. It wasn’t that they didn’t love each other anymore. Ian wanted to settle for real, Nina wanted a few more years to be free… And that’s how everything fell apart.
Ian was feeling like his heart was gone completely, like there was a piece of him missing. It was Nina. They had have broken up a long time ago but it was
never as painful as this time. He was feeling only emptiness. A hole where his heart used to be.
People would say that it will get better with each passing day, but it wasn’t true. For Ian, it was getting worse. He couldn’t eat, he couldn’t sleep, he couldn’t stop thinking about Nina. It was like life was over and there was nothing to look forward to.
All Nina needed was a good night’s sleep, but she just couldn’t bring herself to sleep. Her whole body was shut down, there was a hollow feeling in the pit
of her stomach, severe headaches from all the crying and so on… She never wanted to lose him. He was her one true love, she even married him. But if she
only was a few years older, maybe things would have been better.
But now, she had lost him, he wasn’t there, but his smell was all over her bed. His pillow. Even some of his stuff were still there. Nina didn’t know where her life was headed. She was lost, tired and sleepy. Thank God there was a break from work at the moment. She wasn’t ready to see him just yet. Even though, she missed him, she really did. Were they going to be friends? There wasn’t any yelling that day. They just fell apart inside silently.
"So what? We’re just gonna end it like that?"
"It’s not easy for me, either." Nina breathed heavily and wiped away the tears that was rolling down her cheek.
"We were supposed to fight for this, for us. Not just walk away because things aren’t working right now." Ian swallowed, his mind was black. He looked at Nina. She cried out with voice, looking at him and then he just lost it. She was just as broken as he was. He walked to her, hugged her tight and buried his face in her neck, trying to memorize her smell.
She hugged him back even tighter, because she knew that was exactly what he needed right now.
"Can’t I just continue seeing you, I’m not sure if I will be able to live if I don’t see you anymore baby." He whispered, caressing her back gently.
"Of course you’re going to see me, Ian. We’re working together, we’re both living in Atlanta."
"We are just not together anymore." He said silently. It was so hard. It was hard even just to say it out loud. "I didn’t even kiss you for the last time. Can I
do it now?”
Nina nodded, wiped away her tears and brought her mouth closer to his.
Ian ran his fingers through Nina’s hair. He was gonna miss that so much. Then he leaned down, pressed his lips on hers and kissed her deeply. He slid his tongue in her mouth and started exploring it for the last time. Nina wrapped her arms around his neck, pulling him as closer and possible, while kissing him back.
The kiss got intense, but soon they stopped and hugged each other again.
"I want you to be happy." Nina whispered.
"I won’t be."
"Please stop." Nina started crying again and pressed her body against his.
