chapter 3

MADDIE'S P.O.V

When school was over, I see Matthew walking out of the school, an wait for him at the front door.

"Hey, you actually listened to me." He smirks.

"Yea, whatever." I snap

"Wow your really feisty today, what, did you actually gain some confidence." He scuffs.

"I need to switch partners, this is ridiculous." I say walking towards the doors to talk to Mrs. Hemsworth.

"There are no extra partners, I hope you know that." He laughs.

"Then I'll be by myself." I snap.

"You can't do that." He says rolling his eyes.

"And why not?" I ask

"Because that's the point of the project, you have to have a partner." He explains.

"Fine." I huff. The two of us walk to his car, and he looks around.

"What are you doing?" I ask.

"Making sure no one see's me." He says acting like I should know.

"Right, because you don't want anyone to know about you being seen with the "freak." I say using my fingers to quote. He rolls his eyes and we finally reach his car. "Hold on I need to call my mother, to tell her that I'm not going to be home." I say pulling out my phone.

"Really?" He asks rolling his eyes.

"Really." I say giving him an attitude.

"Hello?" my mother answer

"Hey mother I was wondering if I could go to my um.... my friends house to work on a project?" I struggle to say.

"Of course, but be home at 6:30 no latter than that." She instructs.

"Can't I just come home at 5:30?" I mumble, so Matthew can't hear me

. "Well if your working on a project you need more time right?" She asks.

"Yea I guess." I say, of course she is right, like always.

"Well I will see you when you get home love you honey." She says.

"Love you too bye." I say and hang up.

"I love you too mommy". Matthew says making kissy faces. I roll my eyes.

"Your so childish." I whisper to myself.

"What?" He asks.

"Nothing."I huff.

"Good." He responds starting his car. The car ride to his house is sci lent, except for his rude remarks about my clothes. Once we arrive my eyes grow wide.

"This is your house?" I gape.

"Yup." He says getting out of the car leaving me alone, such a gentleman. When I walk in behind him, Matthew's mother runs up to me, and gives me a hug. It has been forever since I have seen his Mother, she was always such a nice lady, but I didn't think she would remember me. See, Matthew and I used to be like best-friends when we were little, we would hang out everyday while my mother and his would talk about their book club. But it all changed once we got to High school.

"You must be Maddie!" She smiles. " I haven't seen you in forever, it's been so long!" She says.

"It has." I say looking over at Matthew who is starring deep into my eyes.

"How did you remember me?" I ask

"Oh Matthew talks about you all the tim-

"Mom." He says dismissing his Mother.
