Ch. 8: The Devil Ain't Got Nothin on Her

Jay POV

Her mouth fell open at my words with food and all in it. Manners much? Well, she was dressed and dirty as a stray, so I guess etiquette wasn't that big of a concern to her. I still felt a bit smug about being able to shock her so badly. I smirked at her face and recklessly released her from my grip. At least she wasn't raging mad anymore. I was such an idiot.

Still basking in my cockiness, I didn't even see her hand as she slammed my face into the red and yellow table with enough force to crack it clean. The sound of the collision made everyone's head in the dainty, little cafe whip our way. Pain rang between my eyes around my forehead. Owwww. God, if I was human that would have killed me instantly. Now, it was just going to give me a bitch of a headache later. If I was a weaker vampire, blood would be oozing down my forehead, which would draw a lot of unwanted attention.

Actually, Leila was already doing contributing to most of that by herself. "Don't you EVER fuck with me like that!" Leila screamed at me. Wow, she didn't believe me. I pitied my poor soul at my terrible injustice when all I wanted to do was help the poor woman. Wait, I didn't have a soul.

I raised my head to see a family staring down at us with a very dirty look while covering their kids' ears. It wasn't my fault. I couldn't control the woman, much less control whatever vulgar language came flying out of her mouth to smack everyone in the face.

And I honestly hadn't expected her to react this way. I mean it was always a low- cough HIGH cough- possibility for her to turn to violence at every word or action said to her, but this just surprised me. It wasn't the last thing I'd expect her to do, but I had just been so sure she would be ecstatic. As usual, she crushed my dreams with pain.

I could feel the heat of anger she couldn't feel radiating off her. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw one of the waitresses begin to walk towards me to break up the fight. I could smell her fear. She was scared shitless. Fuck, if she came over here, Leila would turn her wrath from me to everyone in the cafe. I wasn't fond of mass murder.

Suddenly, I heard the table start creaking and tilt. I really hoped no one noticed she had split the table with my skull. I grabbed the table and held it together. Mutters started up all around us and I watched as a few people ran out of the door for their lives, spilling their hot chocolate on the way out. One look at Leila's eyes and I could understand why. They were lit on fire with anger and wrath. It took every ounce of my weak ass courage not to get the hell out of there. Jesus, this was the worst I had ever seen her.

I was just glad she was too angry to think of using Angelus or Mortis on me. I don't think our audience would appreciate an innocent man being stabbed to death in the back of the head by an insane chick.

I saw Leila raise her hand to hit me again. Hell, this was going to hurt. "Um, Leila..." I began. And never finished.

My head whipped back as she punched me across my pretty boy face. I heard the wail of a few kids."Go to hell, you asshole!" Leila screamed more obscenities at me. Ones I didn't even know she had know. She really needed to get off the streets. While I was pondering this, Leila punched me again. We didn't bruise, but she better not break anything. I couldn't take much more of this. Why couldn't she be normal with no anger problems whatsoever? Wait, then life would be no fun for me.

I really needed to get her to stop talking. Leila was way too out of control right now. I had no idea what to do to keep her quiet especially with my hands occupied with the table. I was always so lost when it came to this woman. Out of ideas at the moment, I did the only thing I though could silence her lips.
