Theory of a Deadman - Since You've Been Gone

Chapter 30: Busted
Jay POV
It seems that nothing ever goes my way. I have a brain. Why don't I ever use it? I hadn't meant to say that and I regret it one hundred percent. It just came out. I had been so frustrated and pissed at myself for screwing things up. Leila would hate me forever now. I just screwed everything up.
Looking down at her face, I watched emotions I couldn't name flicker. I saw a few that I knew. Sadness, distrust, heartbreak, anger. Hurt. I didn't mean to hurt her. The last thing I wanted in this world was to cause her pain. But I seemed to be doing just that around every corner.
This was all my fucking fault. I was such an idiot. I wanted to light myself on fire. How could I have kissed someone that wasn't Leila? Exhaustion, blood-deprivation, and half-insanity were no excuse, even though I really wanted them to be one. I knew it wasn't Leila. I just wanted her so badly. And of course Karma just decided to shoot my in the ass and have Leila show up just at that moment. Talk about a huge fucking coincidence.
I hated the silence as Leila just looked at me. I wanted to say something, but whatever came out of my mouth was probably just going to screw our relationship up further. I didn't even have anything to say. I never thought our relationship would become this difficult. Leila plus me just seemed to be heaven. I never thought things through when it came to her. One day, I would make the final mistake and she's will end this.
Wait. I probably just did.
I stared at her under my brown hair as she stared back at me. Leila had never looked so open since... yeah. For once, I could see everything she felt. As Jay, I could never completely break down that barrier.
We stood looking at each other for a good five minutes. I didn't dare to breathe. I was too anxious to do anything.
I watched as Leila suddenly came back to her senses. Her barrier went back up as her eyes narrowed at me maliciously. Her glare burned me. "Don't move," she snarled before backing up and closing the bathroom door. I obeyed.
I heard rustling from inside. Twenty-seven seconds passed before I heard her approach the door. Yes, I did count.
I leaned back to keep the door from smashing into my face as Leila kicked it open. She had a double barrel shotgun pointed at my chest with a small black bag slung over her shoulder. She has one of these in her bathroom...? At this range, I wouldn't have a chest anymore if she pulled that trigger.
I wasn't afraid, though. "Kiziah!" she barked. Kiziah trotted over to her, going around me. Leila started speaking to me. "We are going. Move an inch and someone will have to piece your chest back together like a puzzle. Don't follow. I'll be back."
"When?" I murmured quietly.
"Eventually. Feed Amynta and them." Slowly, Leila started to slide around me. My eyes followed her. When Leila was around me, she started backing up. Instead of going out the door, she moved towards the window. My lips pressed together. I didn't like it. It was a long flight down. She could easily get hurt. It hurt to think that she was taking such a risk to get away from me faster.
Watching me, Leila unlatched the window and gave it a slight push. It swung open, letting the evening air in. Awkwardly, she climbed up on the ledge with that shotgun still pointed at me. I wanted to tell her to stop. But I couldn't.
Spinning around, my soulmate jumped from my view.
I lingered looking at the spot where she had jumped from before sighing, shifting my features back to Jay, and exiting the room. Kira was standing outside the door with a very pissed-off expression. Why wasn't each room in each dorm soundproof instead of just the whole dorm room? That would stop a lot of snooping vampires from eavesdropping. Like the one standing before me.

Trust a Vampire? You've gotta be kidding me.
VampirosI killed the only man I knew and loved. Well shit. Will I let the pain consume me or will I find light in my darkened days. Or will I die from too much exposure of Jay's cocky, arrogant, ignorant, unhelpful, snobby voice. I don't know, but probably...
