Happy New Year :D

Chapter 31: Bullet For My Valentine

So Trace was back. I was still pretty shocked, so I couldn't feel the happiness I should be feeling. I could talk, though, and I had an important question to ask him. "Trace," I stretched his name out, "don't you know me?"

Trace gave me a smile, but his eyes were confused. "Of course I know you, Leila."

I bit the inside of my cheek nervously. "Then why didn't you tell me what I needed to hear? Instead of giving me all those useless gifts. If you knew me, you must have known what I needed. I'm kind of happy you didn't though, because I got my Trace back. Still, answer the question."

"Because, honestly, I didn't know if I could promise that. I didn't really think you would forgive me for the gifts--"

I stopped him for a second. "By the way, give the island back. Okay, go on."

Trace gave me a wry look. "I thought I taught you it's rude to interrupt."

I shrugged. "Probably, but when did I ever listen to you?"

Trace sighed. "Good point. Can I continue?" I nodded. "I didn't think you'd forgive me for them, but there was a small hope you would, so I kept them coming. Mostly though because I didn't want you to think that I wasn’t doing anything to get you back. What I had really been working on was that." My eyes followed where the direction of Trace's hand. He was pointing to my cello. "It took me two weeks to make it perfect. I made sure not a detail was out of place. I completely let go of the fact that you could figure out it was me. I didn't care by then. All my hope to get you back was resting on that cello. I don't know what I would have done if you didn't."

"It's perfect," I told him with a big smile. It felt a bit unnatural since it had been such a long time since I had smiled like that. "I'm not sure if I would have forgiven you, though. Hadn't had a chance to decide before Jorgie and Kira decided to step in. Where are they anyway?"

"In their rooms, Blaze is with Jorgie. Jordan is here, too. I don't know what you said to them, but Kira and Jorgie are feeling insanely guilty and miserable. What did you say to them anyway?" Trace asked curiously.

"The truth," I said harshly.

Trace flinched. "Ouch, I feel sorry for them." He laughed lightly. "Are you going to torture them, or give them some relief?"

I rolled my eyes, sighing. "Call them in here."

"I'm not your slave. You know the word please could get you so much farther," Trace pouted.

I grinned at him. He always made me smile. "Yes, you are. You know if you actually moved your ass once in a while, things would actually get done. Now go get them." Muttering to himself, Trace stood up and went out the door. I watched him a bit anxiously as he disappeared beyond the door. I couldn't help it. I'd just found him and I didn't want to lose him again.

A few seconds later, Trace came back in with Kira and Jorgie following him. He closed the door behind them. Instead of coming back to sit beside me, he stood behind them with a disapproving expression over his face. I could see it made Jorgie and Kira nervous. Well more nervous than they already were. They weren't looking at me.

"Will you two look at me?" I sighed. "Quit acting like a couple of kids who got caught stealing cookies." Kira dared a tiny smile as she looked up at me. Jorgie just stared, obviously wanting to look elsewhere. God, this girl would never pass for a full vampire.

"I'm not going to take back anything I said because I meant it. And I just don't do that." Trace snorted. I gave him a shut-the-hell-up look. Jorgie's eyes fell from mine to the floor. Kira kept my gaze, but the smile fell. "But I don't hate either of you. We are still...friends." I think that was the first time I'd said that word. "You can go now. Tell Jordan I will talk to him later. I've missed him." I gave a small smile. My leg was starting to hurt more and more and I wanted to lie down. Not sleep, though.
