Chapter 16: Long Time No See
Leila POV
*Five and a half months later*
I kicked another shot of liquor back, taking pleasure in the burn I felt in my throat. Oh how I loved my vodka. I wasn't much of a drinker before. I mean I wasn't a virgin at it or anything, but I took the drinks lightly.
Now, I was totally out of whack. If I was one hundred percent human, I definitely would have drunk myself to death by now. Ever since I left Jay, I just wasn't myself. At first, it seemed I was fine. I was going on a natural killing spree after something upset me. But a month after that rage faded, I just felt empty. I guess I turned to alcohol to fill that void up. It did a shitty job.
The raging beats of the gothic club I was in pounded against my ears. I did my best to ignore the immature screamo and heavy metal that constantly assaulted the small amount of sanity I had left. Why the hell would anyone ever listen to this? You can't understand a goddamn thing they say. (I have no problem whatsoever with the music really :))
Humans in the club with me, headbanged and I think danced? on the floor. It was kind of hard to tell. It just looked like one giant orgy to me. They were all dressed in black and other dark colors. I definitely did not fit in with my white, oversized shirt I had stolen off some random guy. I actually let him live, though.
I could even see a few cut wrists in the throng of people. How was cutting yourself supposed to help? I want to find the first person who thought of that and give them a great big punch to the nuts or boobs.
I looked at the gruff, thick bartender who had been serving me for the past twenty minutes. The guy was decked out just like the other humans in the room. "Hit me," I ordered. He gave me an almost concerned look on his face, before bringing the big liquor bottle to me to refill my glass.
As soon as he was close enough, I snatched the bottle out of his hands, tilted my head back, and drank to my heart's delight. I was tired of the small doses. My liver must have been made from some tough shit. I ignored his constant protests as he tried to get the bottle back.
All too soon, there was nothing left to drink in the bottle. I frowned at it, willing more to magically appear. Suddenly, the bottle was out of my hand and in the bartender's.
"Lady, I think you've had enough. You just downed an entire bottle, not to mention the fourteen shots before it. You should even be able to stand right now! Just go home," he pressed to my annoyance. I would have so killed him by now if we weren't in a club full of witnesses.
Kiziah, who sat peacefully on the stool right beside me, picked up on my irritation and started to growl menacingly. I had to pay extra to get her in this dump of a club. The bartender looked worriedly at her, but still tried to convince me to leave. He probably thought I would end up making a scene if I got too drunk. My annoyance grew, so Kiziah's growl increased in sound, and heads started turning our way. Go back to having sex with clothes on, fools.
This shitty bartender was not going to stand in the way of love between me and my vodka. I didn't come here to dance and party. No, I came here to get wasted and that was what I still intended to do.
Kiziah barked, making the bartender jump. I looked about as drunk as Kiziah did. Which wasn't at all even with the amount of liquor I had been sucking back. The bad part about having a non-human part of me, was that the non-human part was so resilient against alcohol that I needed at least five bottles of the strongest shit just to get drunk. If I wanted to be out-of-my-mind, it would take a whole lot.
I narrowed my eyes at him. "Get me another glass," I growled. "Or I'm going to let my dog here have her way with you. Let's see if you are still alive at the end. She can be a vicious little pup." As if to prove my point, Kiziah barked again. The bartender's face went white and he quickly turned around to get me another drink.
