Chapter 33: No Problem

Life was actually going good for once. I mean other than my unstable self, Trace's crazy ex, and the bulletwounds, yeah it was pretty nice.

And the last thing I wanted to do is screw it all up. Of course, there were obvious questions I needed to ask Trace. It was too much of a coincidence to ask him why he was there to find--save me when I was lying in the snow. And why would he take me in? He could have dropped me at an orphanage or Trace could have just left me to die. It didn't make sense.

But I had a feeling that conversation would lead south, and I didn't want to deal with that. So I would ask later...eventually. Yes, that's probably a bad idea in the long run, but it seemed a really good one now.

"Miss Venita!" the evil psychobitch Miss Schaltenbrand screeched my name. "Would you rather sit outside or inside and join the rest of the class?" I'd rather sit outside.

Schaltenbrand taught Chemistry and anything else science-related for human classes and Species Anatomy for vampire classes. Species as in vampires, shifters, shadows. That crowd. I would probably love these classes if anybody other than Schaltenbrand taught it.

She was this fat, snoody teacher who wore ugly summer dresses everyday. Seriously...who has ever heard of a fat vampire? How do vampires even get fat?  Drink gallons of blood a day? Nasty.

But I did learn from her. A lot about vampires actually.  Turns out vampires could actually cry, but they didn't actually cry blood. Nope, just regular old tears. Also, you can't kill a vampire even by decapitation or taking out it's heart. The body just goes into a sort of standby mode while it regenerates itself.

It's actually true that vampires are allergic to sunlight, but it's not their skin. A vampire's blood is actually highly sensitive to light and it catches on fire pretty much instantly. There is no tolerance to light for them. Usually, vampires don't walk out into sunlight bleeding, so it's okay, though. Plus, it has to be a large, bleeding wound for the blood to catch. A small one won't do because the body heals up too fast. It's the only way to kill a vampire unfortunately.

Schaltenbrand gave us assigned seats. Honestly, we weren't in kindergarten anymore. I think we can handle sitting by our friends. Jorgie and Kira weren't even sitting anywhere near me or each other. Jorgie was on the other side of the room while Kira was way down at the front. I was supposed to sit in the front, too, but I blatantly refused. She got pissed, but didn't do a damn thing about it.

Instead of shutting up like I probably should have, I decided to be a smart ass. "Well, the answer is obvious. Of course I'd rather be outsidein the green forest away from you leeches in this small, cramped room. But that's rude, so I'll say sorry Ms. Schaltenbrand. I'll pay attention from now on even though we both know I won't. But it sounds nice," I smirked, looking into her angry red eyes.

And in response she did the same thing all the other teachers I pissed off did. Instead of giving me detention, assigning me manual labor, or getting a belt and whipping me half to death, Schaltenbrand pointed to the door, yelling, "To the principal's office!"

I grabbed my bag off the floor and stood up. The dogs followed after me as I walked down the gap. I actually walked. It was a total front and the pain was killing me inside, but vampires could practically smell weakness.

Colorful eyes watched me as I left the room. Schaltenbrand glared at me. Freaks... I started slowly walking towards the ground floor where Kevin's office was. I felt Trace somewhere near. He is such a stalker. But a cute, sexy, lovable stalker.

Trace POV

I am such a stalker. I felt Leila leave her classroom as I sat undetected on the ledge beneath the window. God, that girl always mouths off to her teachers. Respect was a concept I never could quite teach her. Still, the things she said made me split my gut sometimes. I almost fell off when she sassed her teacher.
