Chapter 26: Waking Up
Jay POV
I was so relieved. Today was the day Leila was going to wake up. If I believed in Senet's words. I do.
I looked at Leila's sleeping form from across the room. Comparing her from the day Senet popped in with her in his arms and now, it was astounding. She looked so much healthier.
These have been the longest two weeks of my life. It hurt me watching her twist in pain in her sleep. I wanted to smooth over the distressed face, but there was nothing I could do. I had honestly never felt so helpless.
The worst part was her delusions. She never recognized me, calling me Trace constantly. Leila talked to me, though. She sounded almost as if she hadn't been sick at all.
I walked over to my bed, kneeling at the side. I stroked her hair gently. She twisted her face towards mine. Her eyes opened and a smile spread on her face. The first time she woke up, I thought she had already recovered. But then she called me Trace and I saw the foggy look in her eyes.
"Hey, Trace. I've got a secret to tell you," she whispered in a soft voice.
"I'm not Trace. I'm Jay," I urged, placing a finger over her dry mouth. "Go back to sleep, baby."
Weakly, she pushed my finger away. Frowning, she shook her head on the bed. "No. I have to tell you."
Leila POV
Trace was with me again. I was so happy. We had talked in the past few days. It was weird because he kept on saying he wasn't Trace. Trace kept on saying he was this Jay guy. But I didn't know a Jay. I just thought he was playing with me. I slept too much. We never got a chance to do anything together. But if I ever tried to get up, he'd just push me down, saying I needed to rest. I didn't understand. I felt fine.
"You know the day I killed you," I said quietly. "I want to apologize. I wish I let you kill me. You would have never died. That was really selfish and stupid of me."
"Okay, I forgive you," Trace said hurriedly. Was something wrong? "Go back to sleep now."
I place a hand on Trace's cheek. It felt kind of different. Maybe Heaven does that to you. I was glad he got to come back to me, though. His amber eyes looked at me intensely. "I'm not done. There is something else. Someone else." I closed my eyes slowly. I was getting tired. I took a deep breath and opened my eyes to look Trace straight in the eye. Only it wasn't Trace anymore. This person had blue eyes and was a little bigger than my Trace. It was him. "Who--" I blinked. Trace was back. I shook my head.
"What's wrong?" Trace asked. I must have been hallucinating.
"Nothing," I mumbled. "Trace, I love you. More than you can ever know." Shock crossed his eyes. They went a bright yellow. "I thought you were the only one I could ever love. I was broken and lonely for a long time," I whispered. "But someone else came. But...I can't remember his name. I hate myself for this, Trace, but I love him just as much as I love you. I don't know how I can. It seemed like you were the only person for me...but I'm drawn to him. I don't know who I would choose between you two, but he's not here. I don't know where he is...I hope you aren't mad."
He was going to be mad. I closed my eyes and waited for yelling, but nothing came. I was tired. Too tired to open my eyes again. I let sleep pick me up and take me away.
Jay POV
Is it me she loves?
Jorgie POV
Well, it's been two weeks. When the hell was Leila going to wake up? I can't say I've enjoyed my stay here. I didn't like being around Purebloods. They could kill me in an instant if they wanted, so I stayed in my room most of the time. In fact, it was already three in the afternoon and I hadn't left it once. At least Jordan was safe. It shocked the hell out of me that he was the King and Queen Shifter's son.

VampireI killed the only man I knew and loved. Well shit. Will I let the pain consume me or will I find light in my darkened days. Or will I die from too much exposure of Jay's cocky, arrogant, ignorant, unhelpful, snobby voice. I don't know, but probably...
