*tw: blood*

(a/n: btw roman didn't die previous chapter haha virgil was just saying how he could see the life being sucked out of roman knowing he was going to die soon sorry if you thought he's already dead)

On the fourth day, one of the workers told me that Roman had a very short amount of time left to live.

It wasn't like he was basically dead anyway...

I was sitting next to Roman again. He was breathing, which was a huge relief.

day 1:

It was almost time to say goodbye.

"You think you do the right thing, but incidentally," I sang softly, "you find the whole world would prefer it differently..."

He was the reason Thomas started to like me. Because he convinced me to share my song.

"I never wanted to be the bad guy..."

day 2:

I stared at Roman's cold, blank face for an abnormally long time.

I looked away and suddenly heard a grunt. I turned back and Roman was trying to sit up.

I smiled widely, but that nice feeling went away quick when I saw Roman was in pain. "Hey! Lay back down, you're hurting yourself."

"Virge, why am I in the hospit- oh... Did Deceit do something? That made me lose consciousness?" His voice was quiet and his throat was clearly dry. I gave him a bottle of water.

"Yeah, he did... A-And he poisoned you and nobody knows how to fix it so you have the rest of today to live and I don't know if you'll be here by the end of tomorrow..."

I didn't realize I was crying until Roman wiped a tear rolling down my face.

"Now that you're awake and able to consent, can I kiss you?" I asked quickly.

He gave a faint smile despite his pain and nodded.

I quickly put my hand on his cheek and kissed him lovingly. Not very rough, but I needed it.

We sat talking for a bit before he started coughing a lot.

"Are you okay? Fuck! No you're not! That was a dumb question... What happened?!" It's nothing too bad," he croaked and stopped coughing after drinking a bit more water.

"Okay."

day 3:

The color had drained out of his body again and I knew that day would be his last... At least I got to talk to him the previous day.

He was awake but he couldn't move anything except his mouth.

It was 9 pm.

And then it was 10 pm. That was when Patton and Logan came in together and brought Roman flowers as a get-better-soon-even-though-we-all-know-you're-gonna-die gift.

11 pm was when Roman became dizzy again. Someone had to put a wet towel on the back of his neck to keep him from puking.

"...R-Roman?"

"Yes?" he asked, his voice barely audible.

"I'm sorry... For all the dumb stuff I did. A-And that you're gonna be gone soon and you didn't get to do everything you wanted to... If I had just killed Deceit like we had planned to, this might not be happening. I'd be the one dying instead. And if I hadn't gotten rid of your memories, maybe he'd still be targeting me. I hate that all this is happening to you..."

"I wish I could hug you right now," he said. "You'll find someone new who will love you almost as much as I do."

"I won't..." I sighed.

day 4:

We talked for a while more, and while I wanted to stay the whole rest of the night, I was told I had to leave before 3 am. So I left at 2:59.

I kissed Roman's cheek before I left, though.

It took me several hours to fall asleep, but Patton helped me by surrounding me in pillows and blankets to cuddle and a large glass of water.

I woke up at 3 pm and called the hospital to see if I could visit Roman. They said no, since they believed they could try to remove the poison even sooner without distractions. That made sense, so I let it go and me, Patton, and Logan watched some Parks and Rec.

Roman wasn't there sitting next to me with his arm around my shoulders so I grabbed a pillow and hugged it.

I fell asleep with my head on Patton's shoulder but he didn't mind. Logan wasn't the jealous type so he didn't mind either.

When I woke up, it was almost 8 pm and I got a phone call.

"Hello...? This is Virgil Sanders," I said slowly.

"Hello, Virgil. This is Dr. Missy from the Mind Palace hospital. We saw your phone number in Roman's emergency contacts and we wanted to you."

Oh God. I knew what this was. I was prepared to explode and lock myself in my room for years...

"Y-Yes, that's me."

"You are Roman's boyfriend, correct?"

"Uh, yeah..."

"Well, we are not sure how to say this to you. But there is some bad news."
