(a/n: catch my pun
this isn't going to be a very happy bonus chapter btw
but i think i like it
in other bonus chapters, pretend this chapter never happens because this barely fits into the story, like this isn't like virgil at all lol)
Virgil was doing great.
Nope.
The end of a book doesn't mean happily ever after, and he was struggling to do anything.
He barely got out of bed.
The one thing he really wanted to do was...
Anything. Anything at all.
From where he stood, his eyes scanned the entire room and they landed on the thick book in the corner.
He hadn't opened it in ages. He didn't think he needed to, since he was happily married with great friends and responsibilities to take care of.
Before he knew it, he had it opened to the third page and he couldn't help but read it.
It hurt him, and he knew what they said didn't apply anymore, but he couldn't stop his head from spinning.
He reached under his bed and grabbed a box of matches. Hastily, he lit one and looked at the fire move around and flicker.
He set his book down -- open on a very early page, and watched the lit match drop from his fingertips right where the pages met.
Usually, he wouldn't do something so seemingly stupid, but he knew that the fire wouldn't spread anywhere else. He made it fireproof after a small inconvenience that included Patton baking.
His tense shoulders relaxed at the crackling sound of the flames.
He sat down and watched the book burn.
