Josh and I were an "official couple" for about a week now. Only our close friends and family knew though. I still haven't told Ross. I wanted to be sure that my new relationship with Josh lasted a bit before I made that call. Because that phone call, isn't going to be the best. "Oh hey Ross! Yeah I just needed to tell you that I am dating the guy i partially cheated on you with. Cool? Bye!" Yeah, no.
The weird thing is, Josh and I haven't gone on any actual dates yet. Only out with friends, and seeing each other in school. I guess Josh realized this too, because he finally asked me out today. Nothing too impressive, just an after school coffee date. We do live in Ohio, not much to do in the winter.
So we went to a near by coffee shop after school. I recommended it, and Josh had never been there. I really liked that place though, it wasn't a chain shop. It's owned by a really nice family, and everything there is so good. To be honest, it's like going to your grandma's house and getting milk and cookies. I got my usual coffee and Josh got hot chocolate.
"Not a coffee person?" I asked taking a sip from my cup, which was still extremely hot. So of course I burnt my lip taking the sip, trying not to show expression.
"Only sometimes." He said walking over to a table, setting his keys down. We both sat down and drank our beverages for a second.
"How is it?" I asked, curious because I loved this place and he had never been here.
"Really good." He laughed, as he wiped whipped cream off of his face with his hand.
"Here." I said handing him a napkin.
"It is good though. How did you find this place?" He asked. Which was a legit question considering the shop was on one of the back streets of our town.
"My dad always took Aiden and I here when we were little." I looked at my cup and smiled a bit, remembering memories. "Before he got a new job, now he is always away on business trips."
"That stinks."
"Yeah, I've learned to deal with it though. I honestly don't even know where he is right now." I said, he has been gone for like two weeks. Although this time I called him and told him I had a new boyfriend. Just so we don;t have any awkward conversations over face time again.
"You're close to your mom though, right?" He asked.
"Yeah, we get along well."
"That's nice." He said, then continued. "My parents are both busy, but I get along with both."
"At least you don't have a pain in the butt little brother." I laughed.
"Aiden? He's so funny! How could you be annoyed with that?"
"He is such a little twerp! All he does is play video games all day."
"Then he doesn't bug you." Josh said, proving an actual point.
"Yeah but when he does bug me." I laughed.
"He's a little brother, what do you expect." He said. We continued to talk about random things. Nothing too exciting, we already knew a lot about each other, we have been friends for years. We finished our drinks then walked down the street outside. There wasn't really anything to look at. Maybe a few little shops, but other than that the road sort of ended. The street was on a hill though, and there was a nice view between the buildings.
"It's really pretty out here." I said looking around. The snow was at this perfect flurry, and the sun was in the sky, making the snow sparkle. I leaned up against a little wooden fence, looking at the view. Soon Josh joined me and looked around.
"What's your favorite place." He asked, looking over at me now.
"I don't know." I said back, not sure of an answer.
"If you could go anywhere right now. Where." He repeated.
"I don't kn-" I tried to answer.
"No, really think about it." I stopped and leaned up a bit in thought. I couldn't think of any special places from my past. Until I finally thought of a spot.
"Well, I guess there is this one place."
"Really, and where is that?" I didn't really want to say where it was. Why, because the place I came up with was that lake in the park that I was at with Ross. That was a place I would love to go back to, I just didn't have a reason to go back.
"That park near my house." I said finally.
"Why?"
"No reason." I said back.
"If it's your favorite place, there has to be a reason." He said.
"It's just special to me in a way...that you wouldn't understand." That was my final answer.
"Alright." He agreed.
"What about you? Where would you go?" I said, trying to sound as interested as he did. He made this little smile and looked back away from me.
"I don't have a place." He said.
"What?" I said in disbelief. "You just made me think of a place!" I laughed a little.
"But I have a reason." He looked back at me.
"Ok what's your reason." I said crossing my arms.
"Why would you want to go to a certain place where you have already been, when there is so much world out there that our eyes have never seen?" He gave me a smile and I uncrossed my arms.
"Well..." I started, but gave up on an answer.
"Blair, it's not about the places we've been, it's the moments we create." He stopped and got closer. "Like right now, this moment." He grabbed my hands, and held them tightly in his. "Right now, there will never be another time just like this." He was still smiling, I was staring at him because I never thought any thing like that could come from his mind. He moved his hands to my waist, moving my hands to his chest. Then we were close together, his lips on mine. This time, I had no regrets, no worries. Right now was perfect, our first kiss as a couple. And like he just said, there will never be another moment just like this.
