I asked Josh to come to my house, I didn't want to go out in public to break up with him. I've never broken up with someone before. I knew this would be difficult.

I was looking out my bedroom window waiting for him to come from down the street. I kept thinking if I was doing the right thing. I'm positive I was.

I watched as he finally was walking down the street, then making his way up my driveway, to the door. I ran downstairs, then opened the door as he rang the doorbell.

"Hey." He said smiling then stepped towards me to quickly kiss me.

"Hey." I said back. He started to come inside but I stopped him. "Why don't we stay out here?" I said trying to not let my voice crack.

"Okay?" He said, unsure. Noticing something was up.

I closed the door and stepped past him sitting down on the steps.

"Look we've been dating for a while now.." I said,

I didn't have a clue what to say next.

"Okay..." He was nervous I could tell.

"I really like you." I said before saying anything else. Because it was true. I like Josh, a lot. He has always been a good friend to me. Well...mostly.

He stayed silent. "Josh..."

"You want to break up don't you." He said. I stared into his eyes for a few seconds, then eventually nodded slightly.

"There's nothing wrong with us...it's just, I realize now, I like us more as friends." Not the real reason, but he didn't need to know that.

"I get it." He said.

"Do you?" I said back.

"We've been friends for so long. It's weird to be together."

"Those were my thoughts." HA, no they were not. My thoughts were: there is a much sweeter, adorable, lovable guy waiting for me in California.

"I mean, I have wanted to be with you for a while, but now that it happened...it's not really what I thought it would be."

"Then I think there was that patch of roughness before our actual relationship..." I added, talking about Ross.

"Yeah..the books aren't always better than the movie." He said, I'm not sure that actually made sense but I went with it. He seemed hurt, I felt so bad.

"I guess.." I wasn't sure what to say. We stood there in silence, not looking at each other.

"I'll see you around okay." He said. Is that it?

"Uh okay." I said then he walked away. Maybe he saw it coming. Maybe he was planning on breaking up with me? I don't know.

But the thing is, I did it. No more dating Josh. No more wanting to be with someone while being stuck with another. I sat down on my porch and watched Josh walk back to his house.

So now I could be with Ross. Again. But why did I want to cry right now? I got out my phone and called Jenna.

"Hey B! What's up?" She said in her normal peppy voice.

"I did it." There was the voice crack I was waiting for.

"Are you okay?" She asked. "Don't answer I'm coming over." She said, then hung up.

I watched her front door open across the street and watched her run over in heels. I started laughing and got up.

"Why are you in heels?" I asked laughing.

"First shoes I found, I heard the voice crack I needed to get here quick." She said. "Are you okay?" She asked in person.

"I don't know." I said.

"You are, I know you are." She said petting my hair.

"Why are you stroking me." I questioned her.

"It's what friends do." She said.

"In what world?" I said, then realizing she was still doing it. "Would you- stop!" I said hitting her hand off my head, laughing.

"Sorry." She said. "How did Josh take it?"

"I think okay.. He didn't seem too surprised."

"Really? That's a surprise."

"Yeah, but he was still upset."

"But your single again." Jenna said.

"Wait, I'm single again..." I said.

"And so am I!" Jenna said.

"What?" I asked. "You were with Cory!" I said completely confused.

"Yeah, I broke up with him." She said like it was no big deal.

"Why?"

"I didn't like him." Was all she said, but also making it clear that she didn't really want to talk about it. I respected that.

"You should call Ross." Jenna said.

"Why should I..?" I asked. "He probably hasn't broken up with Marie yet." I said.

"Just call him." She said then grabbed my phone from my pocket.

"Hey!" I said. She called him for me, then handed me the phone. I mouthed thanks to her, then listened to the phone ring.
