Chapter 6 - The Aftermath Part 3

A day later, at the Petalburg City Gym:

"This will be an unofficial 1 on 1 Pokemon Battle, with no substitutions allowed. When one side's Pokemon is unable, the battle will be over. Can both sides please take out their Pokemon," Max stated.

"Venusaur, spotlight!" May shouted as Venusaur appeared out of her PokeBall. 

"Slaking, prepare for battle!" Norman said as his signature Pokemon appeared on the battlefield, lying down with a sleepy expression.

"May, you have the honour to go first," Norman said. "As you wish," May replied. "Venusaur, use Sludge Bomb," May commanded as Venusaur released a set of powerful sludge bombs towards Slaking.

"Slaking, dodge it then use Earthquake," Norman said. Despite Slaking being known as the "Lazy Pokemon" in the PokeDex, Slaking dodged it with minimal effort by rolling to the side and set off an earthquake that shook the entire battlefield, causing Venusaur to lose balance as well as taking damage.

"That Slaking might be appear to be slow, but it dodged Venusaur's attacks easily. It definitely isn't a pushover. However, since it's ability is Truant, it cannot move every consecutive turn," May thought to herself. "Now use Leech Seed," she ordered. This time, Leech Seed hit its target, with several small vines wrapped around Slaking and draining a small portion of its health at the end of every turn.

"Use Giga Impact," Norman said as Slaking as it began charging towards Venusaur at a high speed, striking Venusaur and sending it move backwards several metres. "Even though Giga Impact causes the user to recharge the next turn, it won't matter as Slaking's ability is Truant. So I chose to deal as much damage as possible," Norman explained.

"Smart strategy, as expected from dad," May thought. "But I won't lose." "Use Toxic!" she said. Venusaur, who just recovered from Giga Impact, immediately released deadly toxins at Slaking who was unable to move, causing it to be badly poisoned.

"If the battle continues for any longer then Slaking would faint due to Leech Seed and Toxic," Norman thought. "Use Aerial Ace!" he commanded. 

May gasped. "He must have taught Aerial Ace to counter fighting type Pokemon," she thought. "Use Giga Drain," she ordered, as a beam of energy emerged from Venusaur's flower on its back and wrapped around Slaking, draining it's energy as well as recovering some of it's lost HP.

As soon as, Venusaur is done, Slaking looked incredibly tired due to the effects of Leech Seed, Toxic and Giga Drain. "It's now or never. I better finish this battle in my next shot," he thought. "Finish this with your final shot of Giga Impact," Norman said. "Use Sludge Bomb to finish this battle," May commanded.

As Slaking started charging at Venusaur with Giga Impact at a high speed, Venusaur began shooting an endless array of Sludge Bomb at Slaking, causing it to take damage but not enough to stop it from charging towards Venusaur. Eventually, they collided with each other, causing a massive explosion to break out.

After the explosion cleared up, the battlefield revealed that both Slaking and Venusaur fainted. "Both Pokemon are unable to battle! Therefore this battle is a tie breaker," Max announced. "Thanks Slaking, you did well. Take a good rest," Norman said as he recalled Slaking. "You too Venusaur," May said as she returned Venusaur. May then turned to her father, expecting an answer."

"Even though this battle was a tie, I am still very upset at what you did to Ash. However, I believe that you fought well in this battle, so you have my permission to attend Pokemon Contests, but only in one condition," Norman stated. 

"What is it dad?" May asked. "You must stop interacting with Drew and stop being friends with him since I find him a very bad influence to you," he replied firmly. 

"But..." May said then pondered for a few seconds then continued, "fine," she said reluctantly. But in her mind, she wasn't really going to listen to her father's order about staying with Drew as she had a crush on him and valued him more than Ash.
