Chapter 27 - Akala Island Trial Challenge (Part 3)

"So Ash, are you ready for your final obstacle before challenging Olivia?" Mallow asked Ash after having breakfast at the resort.

"You bet," Ash replied with a smile. "So shall we get going?"

"Of course. Let's go," the green haired trainer replied as she and Ash exited the front entrance of the resort and trekked north through Route 6, Paniola Ranch, Route 5 and finally, into the area of the Lush Jungle. Upon arriving into Lush Jungle, Mallow then began to explain the challenge to Ash.

"Alright, Ash. So this is how the challenge works. You will need to explore the jungle and find the Totem Lurantis and challenge it to a battle. It has two ally Pokemon, Trumbeak & Kecleon. The 1st ally Pokemon it will summon will depend on how much damage it has taken before its first turn. It is pretty much similar to Kiawe's challenge." 

"I see. Alright, Bulbasaur, let's battle," Ash said as he sent out the small Seed Pokemon out of its PokeBall. The moment when Bulbasaur came out of its PokeBall, Lurantis began charging towards the Seed Pokemon while its two arms glowed white and formed an X-Shape.

"Use Sleep Powder," Ash ordered as Bulbasaur then released an array of blue powder from the bulb on its back and charged directly towards Lurantis. As a Totem Pokemon, Lurantis' speed was increased by 2 stages, but due to going too fast, it was unable to dodge the Sleep Powder and became asleep, which also meant that it was unable to summon one of its ally Pokemon.

"Smart move, Ash. If you manage to defeat Lurantis before it can summon any of its ally Pokemon, you automatically win," Mallow said.

"Is that so? Then I'll try to defeat Lurantis before it wakes up," Ash said. "Bulbasaur, use Sludge Bomb," the raven haired trainer ordered as Bulbasaur then released a set of Sludge Bombs, which directly hit Lurantis due to it being asleep and unable to dodge the attack, taking a lot of damage due to being a super effective move.

However, after taking a lot of damage, Lurantis had woken up and summoned its ally Kecleon, who appeared shortly after the Bloom Sickle Pokemon had temporarily disappeared. Once prepared for battle, the Color Swap Pokemon then created a very loud sound wave that approached Bulbasaur.

"That's Screech," Ash thought to himself. "I better be careful when dodging any incoming offensive attacks otherwise Bulbasaur would be knocked out in a short amount of time."

As soon as Kecleon, it began to charge towards Bulbasaur while preparing a Dizzy Punch. However, it was a fair distance away, giving the Seed Pokemon enough time to prepare and counter.

"Use Giga Drain," Ash ordered, as Bulbasaur released a green beam of energy from its bulb and directly hit the incoming Kecleon, scoring a direct hit on the Color Swap Pokemon. As Giga Drain hit it mark, energy was drained from Kecleon and due to its ability Color Change, it changed to a grass type Pokemon.

"Perfect, finish it with Sludge Bomb," Ash said as Bulbasaur released an array of Sludge Bombs at the opposing Kecleon, who countered with another Dizzy Punch. Even though the Colour Swap Pokemon had got hit by several Sludge Bombs, it still manage to eliminate some in the process and score a direct hit on Bulbasaur. Due to being affected by Screech earlier, Dizzy Punch did double the normal damage on Bulbasaur, but due to the Colour Change ability causing Kecleon to change to a grass type temporarily, Sludge Bomb was super effective and also caused both of them to faint from the large amounts of damage taken.

"Now that Kecleon has fainted, the Totem Lurantis will then summon its ally Trumbeak. Even though your Bulbasaur has also fainted in this battle, I'm still impressed with it because it managed to inflict a lot of damage on Lurantis before battling Kecleon," Mallow commented.
