After having lunch at Hapu's house, Ash, Pikachu, Lucario, Professor Kukui and the students were ready to head back to their Pokemon school in Melemele Island.
"Hapu, thank you for your hospitality. Your cooking was delicious," said Professor Kukui as the others nodded in agreement.
"It was my pleasure," replied Hapu. "Also, I'll be coming with you guys back to Melemele Island," she added.
"Oh really? How come?" asked Ash.
"You'll see," Professor Kukui. "As a matter of fact, all of the other Trial Captains, Island Kahunas and the Alola Elite Four will be waiting for us there."
Upon hearing this, Ash faced the students. "Any idea why?" he asked confused.
"It's a surprise," replied the five students in return.
"Alright, let's get going then," said Professor Kukui.
A few hours later:
After a few hours of travelling back home to the Pokemon School in Melemele, the group has finally arrived at their destination, and was greeted by another large group consisting of: Ilima, Hala, Olivia, Acerola, Nanu, Mina, Molayne and Kahili and Principal Oak.
"Welcome back," said the group of Elite Four, Trial Captains, Island Kahunas and Principal Oak.
"Well, Ash, you must be wondering why all of us are here," said Olivia.
"Yes, that's right," replied Ash.
"Well, while you haven't noticed it, Professor Kukui and Hapu have been secretly discussing something regarding you with all of us here," said Ilima.
"Regarding me? What exactly is it about?" inquired Ash.
"Believe it or not, after a long discussion, we would like you to accept the title of Alola Champion," said Hala, shocking Ash, Pikachu and Lucario.
"Are you serious? How come? It seems so sudden," said Ash in shock.
"We were impressed with how well you managed to complete all of our trials. After hearing from Hapu that you have completed her Grand Trial, we've contacted Professor Oak from Kanto regarding your performance here and asked him about how you went in the leagues from the other regions and we became impressed seeing how you came second in the Kalos League and being a champion in the Orange League as well as conquering the Battle Frontier even though you came top 4 or 8 in your Johto, Hoenn, Sinnoh and Unova League participations. So after a long discussion, we deem you worthy of being the Alola Champion," said Hala.
"And Alola actually doesn't have a champion at the moment," added Nanu.
"But in order to become the champion, aren't I supposed to become a League Champion and battle all of the Elite Four Members and win?" inquired Ash.
"That's right. Currently, our Elite Four Members are Molayne, Olivia, Acerola and Kahili," said Mina.
"Since you have already won against me and technically defeated Acerola by completing her challenge, you only need to defeat Kahili and Molayne in individual battles," said Olivia.
"Normally, you would also be required to battle me as well, but seeing how well you've completed every Island Trial and the Grand Trial, we decided to give you an exception for that," said Acerola, with the others nodding in agreement.
"And as for becoming an Alolan League Champion, you do not need to worry about that. The reason is the same as why you don't have to battle Acerola," added Nanu.
"So Ash, are you ready for the challenge?" asked Kahili.
"Could I battle both of you 1 month from now?" inquired Ash.
