The next morning:
A few minutes after waking up in his room, a person had began knocking on the door.
"Yes, who is it?" asked Ash as he walked out of the bathroom upon hearing the door knock.
"Ash, it's me. Professor Kukui and the five students," said the person outside the door. "We would like to talk to you about something."
"Alright, come on in," said Ash as he opened the door and let the six people enter his room.
"Sit down," said Ash and Professor Kukui and his five students sat down in a circle with the raven-haired trainer.
"What was it that you wanted to talk about?" asked Ash.
"Team Skull. It's been a really long while since we last encountered them when you saved us from Guzma and his grunts," answered Professor Kukui.
"Yes, it has been too long. How come you're bringing this up all of a sudden?" asked Ash.
"Since it's been a really long time from when we last encountered Team Skull, I have a feeling that they're up to something again," replied Professor Kukui.
"Could you elaborate on that?" asked Ash.
"Well, since this tournament is a global event, and many people all over the world would know about it, I'm sure Team Skull would know about it and do something," said Professor Kukui.
"Hmm... interesting. I suppose you have a point. And you're concerned that they might sabotage the tournament, am I right?" asked Ash.
"Yes, exactly correct," answered Professor Kukui.
"I thought so. It definitely won't be much of a help if we don't do anything about it," said Ash.
"So do you have any ideas on what to do about this?" asked Professor Kukui.
"Let me think about it. I'll give you my answer after breakfast," replied Ash.
"Alright, take your time," said Professor Kukui as he and the five students walked out of Room 205 and back to their own cabins.
After breakfast:
Upon finishing breakfast with Professor Kukui and the five students, Ash has finally thought of something. After taking Professor Kukui and the five students to the Pokemon Centre.
"Before we make any plans, do you know anything about Guzma aside from the fact that he is the leader of Team Skull?" asked the cloaked figure.
"As a matter of fact, I do. However, it is a very long and complex past story. If you want to know more about it, I'll contact Hala so he and I can explain it to you," said Professor Kukui.
"That would be great," said Ash and Professor Kukui nodded then went off to one of the public telephones, leaving the raven-haired trainer and the five students waiting for them.
A few minutes later, Professor Kukui came back.
"Hala has agreed to meet up with us here so the two of us can explain the story of Guzma to Ash in my cabin," said Professor Kukui.
"Great," said the cloaked figure and about 15 minutes later, Hala has arrived at the entrance of the Pokemon Centre and was greeted by everyone.
"It's been a while, Hala. Thanks for coming," said Professor Kukui.
"No problem. And is the cloaked figure Ash?" asked Hala.
"Yes, it is me," replied the cloaked figure.
"Alright, let's head back to my cabin so we can explain the story of Guzma," said Professor Kukui and the group walked back to Room 204 while Ash quickly headed to his own cabin first and took of his mask and cloak before joining the rest of them.
"So, what's the story behind Guzma?" asked Ash.
"It all started out when Professor Kukui and him were both my apprentices a long time ago," begun Hala, which shocked everyone except for Professor Kukui.
"Are you serious? He was your apprentice?" asked Ash in a surprised manner.
"Yes," answered Professor Kukui grimly.
"However, Guzma would also always defy my teachings. Until finally one day, he has had enough of having to deal with my teachings..."
Flashback, back to many years ago, on a rainy night in a building:
"That high and mighty 'I'll follow the righteous path' attitude of yours really ticks me off!" said Guzma angrily while pointing a finger at Professor Kukui.
"I've had enough of your 'Trials' and 'Offer gratitude to the nature of Alola' drivel!" shouted Guzma while Hala shook his head.
"Guzma," said Kukui as he approached him, but his hand was slapped away by Guzma.
"Useless, all of it. I don't need no Z-Moves or Z-Rings! I'll become strong my own way," continued Guzma before running out of the building and disappeared into the distance.
Back to present:
"This is my fault. If only I had taught him better, then things would not have turned out like this," said Hala as he concluded the background story of the relationship between Guzma, Professor Kukui and himself, leaving everyone else silent for a short moment before Ash broke it.
"No. This isn't your fault, Hala," said Ash and everyone turned to him questioningly.
"Guzma is nothing more than an obsessive individual that is hungry for power and if Hala didn't teach well, then what do you think would have became of Professor Kukui? He definitely wouldn't be where he is at the moment," said Ash.
"As the champion and the main representative of Alola, I'll do what it takes to stop him from going any further. It is my responsibility to do something about this," he continued.
"So what do you have in mind?" asked Hala.
"I say we invite him to the tournament," replied the raven-haired trainer.
Author's Note:
As some of you may have already noticed, the story of the relationship between Guzma, Hala and Professor Kukui is exactly the same as what was shown in the Pokemon Sun and Moon episode 128, which was released recently this week, so I decided to make this tournament more exciting by letting Guzma join this tournament. All of the ideas of this background story belong rightfully to the writers of Pokemon who made this possible in SM128.
P.S. Sorry for the cliffhanger I left at the end of this chapter.
Hope everyone is enjoying the first few chapters of the tournament arc.
Peace out,
Jerry.
