Paul's Pokemon Moveset Update:

Magmortar: Sunny Day, Flamethrower, Thunderbolt, Solar Beam.

Weavile: Swords Dance, Ice Punch, Aerial Ace, Night Slash.

Several days after defeating the Dragon Type gym leader, Drayden, in Opelucid City, Paul has finished making his way to Humilau City in order to obtain his last Unova gym badge.

About half an hour after arriving at Humilau Pokemon Centre, Paul went to collect his Pokemon from Nurse Joy and walked to the gym.

"Ah a challenger. Greetings to you, my name is Marlon, the Humilau City Gym leader. And what is your name?" asked Marlon.

"My name is Paul. And that is quite a nice gym battlefield. A very interesting layout compared to the other gym battlefields I've seen here in Unova," replied Paul.

"Thanks, and shall we begin our gym battle now?" asked Marlon.

"Of course, let's get started," said Paul as both of the made their way to either side of the battlefield.

"This will be an official gym battle between the gym leader Marlon and the challenger Paul. Both sides are allowed to use 2 Pokemon each and only the challenger is allowed to substitute his Pokemon. The battle will be over when all of either side's Pokemon are unable to battle. Can both sides please send out their first Pokemon?" requested the referee.

"Go Jellicent," said Marlon as the Floating Pokemon appeared into the battlefield.

"Magmortar, standby for battle," said Paul as the Blast Pokemon appeared standing on one of the floating platforms in the water layout of the battlefield.

"Interesting how you chose Magmortar. The question is, how will you allow it to move around when there are only several floating platforms that are surrounded by water?"

"I'll get around that," replied Paul.

"Battle begin," said the referee.

"Magmortar, start off with Sunny Day," ordered Paul as the Blast Pokemon fired a powerful beam of sunlight towards the sky, causing the entire battlefield to become covered with harsh sunlight.

"I see, so you're using that in order to weaken the damage done by water type attacks temporarily. Use Shadow Ball," commanded Marlon as Jellicent fired a large Shadow Ball towards Magmortar, scoring a direct hit and inflicting some damage.

"Use Thunderbolt," said Paul after Magmortar recovered from the attack and fired a powerful beam of electricity at Jellicent.

"Use Trick Room," ordered Marlon as Jellicent created a light blue rectangular prism covering the entire battlefield, with the walls becoming invisible a few seconds later. However, it was also struck by Thunderbolt and took a lot of damage.

"This is gonna get tricky," Paul thought to himself.

"Use Sludge Wave," said Marlon as Jellicent fired purple wave of sludge at Magmortar, scoring a direct hit and poisoning the latter.

"Impressive, use Solar Beam," ordered Paul as Magmortar had instantly fired a powerful beam of sunlight from above the battlefield and scored a direct hit on Jellicent and inflict a lot of damage.

"Use Shadow Ball," ordered Marlon as Jellicent fired a Shadow Ball towards Magmortar.

"Destroy it using Flamethrower," commanded Paul, but saw Magmortar falter and was unable to move, thus directly hit by the Shadow Ball, taking more damage from the attack and also from the poison.

"It's now or never, finish this off with Thunderbolt," ordered Paul as Magmortar fired another powerful beam of electricity at the opposing Jellicent.

"Use Hydro Pump, regardless of the Sunny Day," said Marlon as Jellicent fired a powerful jet of water, reduced by Sunny Day, at the incoming Solar Beam, causing an explosion to break out and knock both Pokemon backwards.

A short while later, the explosion cleared up, revealing that both Pokemon had fainted, and the harsh sunlight clearing up.

"Both Pokemon are unable to battle. Can both sides please send out their next and final Pokemon?" requested the referee.

"Return, Magmortar. You fought well despite having the type disadvantage. Take a good rest," said Paul as the Blast Pokemon was returned back into its PokeBall. "Weavile, standby for battle," said Paul as the Sharp Claw Pokemon appeared in the battlefield.

"You too, Jellicent," said Marlon as the Floating Pokemon was recalled. "Mantine, I'm counting on you," added Marlon as the Kite Pokemon appeared flying into the battlefield.

"Battle begin," said the referee.

"Mantine, start off with Signal Beam," said Marlon as the Kite Pokemon fired a powerful yellowish-green beam of light at the opposing Weavile.

"Dodge it and use Swords Dance," ordered Paul as Weavile's claws began to grow longer, glow purple and swing around, sharply boosting its attack. Shortly after wards, the dimensions of Trick Room had disappeared.

"Now use Night Slash," said Paul as Weavile's two claws began to glow purple and aim towards the opposing Mantine.

"Use Bounce," ordered Marlon as Mantine propelled itself up towards the sky, dodging the attack.

"Use Swords Dance once more instead," ordered Paul, realising that there was no point of going after Mantine.

"Hit it with Bounce," commanded Marlon as Mantine dived downwards towards Weavile and scored a direct hit on the latter, knocking it backwards.

"Use Ice Punch," said Paul, but noticed that Weavile was encased with multiple small yellow beams of electricity and could not move.

"No! It must have got paralysed from that Bounce attack," Paul thought to himself.

"Now's our chance, use Signal Beam," said Marlon as Mantine fired another yellowish-green beam of light at Weavile and scored a direct hit on the Sharp Claw Pokemon due to the latter being unable to move from paralysis. As a result, Weavile took more large amounts of damage due to the Signal Beam being a super effective attack.

"Come on, Weavile. Use Night Slash," said Paul, but he realized that the Sharp Claw Pokemon had also became confused from the additional effect of Signal Beam and cursed to himself as he watched Weavile hurt itself in confusion.

"Guess it's over, use Hydro Pump," ordered Marlon as Mantine fired a powerful jet of water at Weavile.

"Dodge it and finish it off with Night Slash," commanded Paul as Weavile, despite the paralysis and confusion, managed to listen to Paul's order miraculously and strike Mantine twice, enough to knock out the Kite Pokemon due to Night Slash powered up by Swords Dance twice.

"Mantine is unable to battle. Weavile wins. Therefore the winner is the challenger Paul," declared the referee.

"Well done Weavile. You were amazing. Take a well-deserved rest," praised Paul as the Sharp Claw gave a tired smile while being recalled bsck into its PokeBall.

"You too, Mantine," said Marlon as the Kite Pokemon was also returned back into its PokeBall.

"That was an excellent battle, Paul. I'm very impressed with your Pokemon and their battling skills. As proof of victory, here is the Wave Badge," said Marlon as he approached Paul with the gym badge.

"Thank you Marlon," said Paul.

"And congratulations for earning your last gym badge. The Unova League will be held in Vertress City, known as the Vertress Conference. Good luck when competing in the league," added Marlon.

"Thanks again," said Paul as he gave a bow to Marlon and the referee before
making his way out of the gym and back to the Pokemon Centre to heal Magmortar and Weavile.
