Max's Pokemon Moveset Update:
Sceptile: Leaf Blade, Dragon Claw, Focus Blast, Quick Attack.
Kirlia: Thunderbolt, Psychic, Calm Mind, Shadow Ball.
Breloom: Seed Bomb, Stone Edge, Sky Uppercut, Swords Dance.
Slaking: Chip Away, Bulk Up, Brick Break, Play Rough.
Mightyena: Crunch, Play Rough, Iron Tail, Scary Face.
A few days after defeating his father and earning himself the Balance Badge in Petalburg City, Max has finally arrived at the Fortree City and has just received his Pokemon.
Upon making his way to the outdoor battlefield of the Fortree Gym, he was approached by Winona.
"Hi Max, long time no see. I assume you're here for a gym battle with me?" greeted Winona.
"Yep, that's right," replied Max.
"Okay, let's battle then. I heard that you defeated your father at the Petalburg Gym a few days ago. Congrats," added Winona as she gestured Max to the opposite side of the battlefield.
"Yeah, that's right. And thanks," replied Max.
"This will be an official 3 VS 3 Gym Battle between the gym leader and the challenger Max. Only the challenger is allowed to substitute Pokemon and the battle will be over when all of either side's Pokemon are unable to battle. Can both sides please take our their first Pokemon?" requested the referee.
"Alright, go Pelipper," said Winona as the Water Bird Pokemon appeared flying in the battlefield.
"Go Kirlia," said Max as the Emotion Pokemon stood on its two legs on the battlefield.
"Battle begin," said the referee.
"Kirlia, use Calm Mind," ordered Max as the Emotion Pokemon's body glowed white and closed its eyes, raising its special attack and special defense.
"Alright, Pelipper, start off with Rain Dance," commanded Winona as the Water Bird Pokemon summoned several large clouds that covered the battlefield and it soon began to rain.
"Now use Thunderbolt," said Max as Kirlia released a powerful lightning bolt from its body and fired it towards Pelipper, scoring a direct hit on the latter and inflicting a serious amount of damage.
"Wasn't expecting that," said Winona, shocked, yet impressed at the sudden Thunderbolt that struck her Pokemon. After Pelipper recovered from that powerful attack, Winona gave an order. "Use Hydro Pump once more," she said as Pelipper opened its mouth and fired a powerful jet of water towards Kirlia, being powered up due to Rain Dance.
"Use Psychic," commanded Max as Kirlia's eyes glowed light blue and fired an array of light blue signal waves towards the incoming Hydro Pump. Both moves directly collided with each other, causing both Pokemon to take damage from the impact and knocking them back a few metres.
"Use Calm Mind once more," said Max as Kirlia closed its eyes while its body glowed white, increasing its special attack and defense once more.
"Use Hurricane," commanded Winona as Pelipper whipped up a powerful gust of wind with its wings and hurled it towards Kirlia and scoring a direct hit. However, due to the effects of Calm Mind, the damage done was considerably reduced.
"Kirlia, use Thunderbolt again," said Max, but Kirlia's eyes appeared to be in a trance and began to hit itself.
"It must be confused," said Max in despair.
