Jack and his friends came back to mine after for takeaway.

Dad hadn't been home since last time and I was relieved.

I walked into my living room which had now been invested by lanky teenage boys.

Jack and Jack as we called them were curled up in an armchair together like two sloths wrapped around each other.

Carter was being spun in the office chair by Cameron the two boys laughing properly like small boys playing in a playground.

Nash had himself sprawled out on the floor doing carpet angels for the last ten minutes.

I couldn't help but smile.

"Shut up my phones ringing" Cameron yelled.

There was a scramble of limbs looking for Cameron's phone.

"Yeah bro?"

We all grew quiet listening to the conversation.

"Nah we left about an hour ago were up in Jacks now"

A slight pause.

"C'mon up the house is at the very end of Melrose road. Near the beach"

I yawned laying back into my armchair.

"He'll be up in a minute guys, with food"

~

The doorbell rang five times. Then another three times.

"Get the door jizzface" Gilinsky said throwing a pillow at me.

He completely missed.

"Who you calling jizzface, assjuice?"

"Oi! Just get it, I call the orders around here" my brother yelled winking at me.

I got up sighing.

I swung the door open, oh crap. I froze on the spot.

He had placed his surfboard on the porch in line with the rest of ours.

His backpack strung over his broad shoulders.

Black hair wet and salty from the water. He grinned.

"Don't mind if I do" he said sliding past me.

"But the pizza is gonna go cold"

I hadn't even noticed the stack of pizza boxes in his hand.

"HAYES MY BABY" someone yelled.

They were grabbing pizza boxes and jumping on each other.

I sunk back into my sofa watching them all causing havoc.

Hayes came over to me with a pizza box in his hands.

"I'm guessing your a pepperoni type girl?"

He collapsed onto the sofa next to me spreading his legs across most of it.

" You guessed right actually"

I helped myself to a slice it was a little cold.

" I'm Hayes" he said " Nashs brother"

We both looked down disapprovingly at Nash lying on the floor.

" We met yesterday remember? I saved your pencil case from a drastic fall"

Hazel- " And I hit you in the face" I added smirking a bit.

Hayes - " Yes that too, and then you rudely ran off on me down the hallway" He pouted looking at me with his blue eyes.

Hazel- "That's not rude! I was late for class" I argued

Hayes - "But we could of walked to class together? Became best friends?"

Hazel- "In the space of two minutes?"

Hayes - "Hey I don't have a whole lot of friends here, Im willing to try anything"

Hazel- " You'll make them easy, my schools not that bad"

He just shrugged his shoulders looking at the pizza box.

Hazel- " And your still planning on becoming best friends?"

Hayes- " Oh a hundred per cent we'll be the best of friends" He took another slice of pizza.

Hazel - " You see easy ? One friend made already"

We laughed and ate the entire pizza between us.

~

Instead of fooling around with the other boys Hayes stayed with me.

I checked my phone seeing missed calls from my dad but ignored them. I doubt he'd be home anyway.

We talked for ages about each other, about school. Everything really.

He was funny and he was really easy to talk to.

We ended up sitting together at the kitchen table eating ice cream from the carton.

Classy.

"Can I consider myself the ultimate white girl now?" Hayes asked me scraping the last out of the carton.

We laughed for a while, fooling around. You'd swear we knew each other for ages.

~

Nash came in giving us a strange look and told Hayes they were leaving. He looked grumpy.

Nash caught my eye for a moment giving me a meaningful look then turned away. Ok? I don't think I'll ever get used to his blue eyes.

I told Hayes I'd see him in school, I was looking forward to it.

Just as they left the room Cameron peeked his head around the door.

"Hey Hazel? Can I talk to you for a sec?"

"Yeah sure"

He slid into one of the chairs.

" Could you do me a favour and just keep an eye on Hayes at school?"

I was confused Hayes seemed so friendly, he would fit in perfectly with some of the guys in my year.

Cameron looking at me knowingly. Probably reading my mind.

"He doesn't have it easy, the kid is going through a lot he just doesn't show it"

He pauses choosing his words carefully.

"There's a lot more to him then what you see"

I nod "Of course no problem I'll look out for him"

Cameron bursts into a smile his face no longer as serious.

"Thank you, he's like a little brother to me and I just don't want to see him get hurt"

His eyes glazed over as if he was remembering something he didn't want to.

He cleared his throat thanking me again and left to catch up with them.

I sat there wondering what he ment when he said Hayes was going through a lot. I was curious, there was a lot I didn't know about him yet.

Moments later Jack scurried in all giddy and happy.

He had the Peter Pan DVD in his hands. I rolled my eyes.

"Sleepover with Jack and Jack in the front room?"

Ten minutes later I was stuck between the two of them on a double mattress covered in duvets and blankets. We laughed throughout the whole thing they knew all the lines.

Peter Pan had been their favourite movie since they were small.

The two of them fell asleep snoring softly before their movie even ended.

They were such kids, and I loved them.
