Chapter 39

Hazels POV

"Hey! Hayes"

I saw him turning and walking away from us.

"Hayes, where are you going?"

He didn't even turn around at me shouting at him.

"I have to run after him" I said starting to jog over the dunes.

"Hazel don't" Dylan said grabbing my arm.

"He looked really upset" I said desperately, watching him disappear out of my view.

I felt bad for not running after him, he was my best friend.

" He wasn't upset. He doesn't like you" Dylan said firmly pulling me back down towards the beach.

"But he must be annoyed, I blew him off today to hang out with you"

I felt a pang of guilt in my chest, I hadn't even texted him to apologise.

"He'll be fine Hazel, you can hang out with us too you know? We were your friends first" Dylan reassured me while we walked down towards the others.

I wanted to argue that Hayes was different, closer to me but I was too tired to put up a fight.

"Your always with him, it's ok" Dylan said.

I lightened up a bit, I could ring him in the morning it was no big deal.

I ran down to join my friends sat in a circle playing truth or dare.

I sat down next to Zoe giving her a smile.

"I saw what happened up there" she whispered into my ear smirking.

My face went red, embarrassed about what I had let happen.

I looked around and everyone was laughing and enjoying themselves under the moonlight.

I just wanted to run up to the beach and find Hayes I felt really bad.

But I didn't want to ruin the night, I let myself forget about and joined in on the game.

Towards the end of the night we had all ended up running in to the sea diving in to the freezing cold water.

"Where were you?" mom asked looked pretty annoyed when I tried sneak into the living room.

I had nearly gotten away with it, I grinned sheepishly at her.

"You know I really should be worried that you've came home twice today soaking wet" she said looking me up and down and shaking her head.

"But I'm even too tired to question you where in gods name you've been now get to bed" she said sternly.

I kissed her on the cheek and and ran up the stairs tiptoeing past Jacks room so I wouldn't wake him up.

I opened the door a little looking in to see my brother, Jack G and Carter fast asleep in the bed together.

I was too tired to shower and went straight to bed.

Mom had put fresh sheets on bed and I found myself falling asleep straight away curled up between the sheets.
