"I got you, I got you. I'm sorry I can't remember anybody's names!" Peter caught a floating Mantis and Walking Road Map.
I hung from a web, semi-unconscious.
Dumb Thanos and his reality-altering abilities.
"You can't save them," Thanos told me, softly.
He grabbed the web, and broke it, lowering me onto the ground.
I struggled up. When I'd gotten to my feet, I panted, staring into his eyes. "I have to try."
He was about to punch me...I think...but someone shoved me out of the way.
Peter swung low and scooped me up, swinging us away.
I gripped tight. "You're an idiot, you know."
He laughed, half-heartedly. "I have Spidey sense, not common sense."
I laughed as well, same half-hearted effort. "Damn straight."
He placed me on the floor.
I didn't let go of his hips, so he stayed kneeling over me. "We running?"
His mask disappeared. "A little."
Mine disappeared. "Good."
He leaned down. "I have to kiss you at least once more."
I let go of his hips and gripped his shoulders. "That's fine with me."
He pressed his mouth to my nose.
Torture, apparently, was his thing.
"Just kiss me, damn it," I managed to say, although throatily.
He bent lower and kissed the middle of my throat.
I moved my hands to the side of his face, forcing him to kiss my mouth.
Meanwhile, I slowly dragged my fingertips up the back of his neck into his hair. He had curls there that I couldn't resist.
He made a throaty noise that I highly approved of.
"Kids, if you're not too busy, we're still FIGHTING A MOTHERFUCKING GOD!" Tony shouted.
Peter jumped up, looking guilty. He mumbled 'shit' the whole time.
I jumped up after him.
He spun to leave, but then rounded on me again. "Oh no, you stay here."
I grabbed his hand. "No."
By the tone, he knew I wasn't staying.
Thanos caught Strange by the throat. Like, Strange had duplicated, and had orange sparkly strings attached to Thanos, who did something and a.l the duplicates disappeared, and then somehow Thanos got a hold of him. "You're full of tricks, wizard."
Strange struggled a bit.
"Yet you never once used your greatest weapon," Thanos continued in his same slow tone that drove me nuts. He was too calm.
He ripped the time stone holder right off Strange's neck, and crushed it.
"A fake," he snarled.
Now, he still managed to sound somewhat calm.
Until he chucked Strange away, and Strange's head smacked the rock.
Tony stood up, staring after him. Then he turned to Thanos. "You throw another moon at me, and I'm gonna lose it."
"Stark," Thanos said simply.
Tony froze. "You know me?"
"You're not the only one cursed with knowledge."
Peter slipped a bit.
I held onto his waist to steady him.
Neither of us felt the need to separate and get killed.
"My only curse is you," Tony responded.
They fought.
Both Peter and I almost couldn't watch, we both looked at each other in panic.
Neither could help.
Not when we realized our feet were rooted to the spot.
Reality had changed again.
Peter and I looked around.
We were back on earth, amongst trees. It was beautiful, some place I'd go for something romantic or something. Peter was panting beside me.
I looked back at him, he looked at me, and we gasped.
He was in a suit.
Not a Spidey suit, a well-tailored suit.
And I....I was in a dress.
A wedding dress.
"Peter...what's..what's going on?" I asked shakily.
Peter looked around.
He looked older.
I looked back down at myself. I looked older.
"It's a trick, don't think about it," he whispered.
We noticed the family members around us.
May. Ned. The Avengers.
Ben.
Peter opened his arms, and I fell into them. "Just pretend it's not there. Don't think about it. It's not real, don't think about it."
We tried. We both tried.
But I wanted to know why Thanos made us both see this.
A great distraction, I thought, when I opened my eyes again and saw Tony laying on his back with his own weapon stabbed through his side.
I screamed out, and Peter whipped around to see what was wrong.
He gasped again. "No, no no no!"
I held him back. "He's too powerful Peter."
Peter was ready to commit his very first murder.
Thanos pulled the blade out of Tony, and walked a bit away.
"You have my respect, Stark," Thanos said to Tony.
Tony was in obvious pain.
"When I'm done, half of humanity will still be alive." He stepped a bit closer, gauntlet raised.
I sobbed. I didn't want to, didn't mean to, but this hurt. All of this. I didn't understand, I didn't know why he did this. Why did he hurt Tony? Why did he hurt Quill? Why did he hurt my Peter? Why couldn't we stop him?
I was so scared. Peter was so scared, as he grabbed my arm and tried to force me to let him go.
"I hope they remember you." Thanos raised the gauntlet higher.
I let Peter go.
"Stop," Strange said.
Peter froze.
Strange sat up a bit, looking right at Thanos. "Spare his life, and I'll give you the stone."
Thanos turned to him, fist still raised threateningly. "No tricks?"
Peter fell to his knees, and I ran behind him and caught him.
I prayed reality didn't change.
"Don't," Tony choked out.
Strange didn't listen.
He gave Thanos the stone.
We were all going to die.
