In the hallway, I caught Peter's tie as it flew past me. I popped a few feet in front of him, and he nearly screamed.
"Y/N!" He whisper/yelled. "You're-"
"Helping your sorry ass," I snapped.
"No, you're mad at me. You're saying this is my fault. MAYBE I JUST WANT TO BE INDEPENDENT!"
I froze.
I hadn't thought of that. "Peter, I never thought of that-"
"No shit," he snapped.
"Language," I mumbled back.
He smiled a bit despite himself. "And she's not my girlfriend."
I snorted. "Not yet."
Liz was right.
It's my own fault. I'm egging Peter on. Encouraging him and Liz.
When I said yet, I failed to see the sad look in his eyes.
"So what's your plan?" I asked.
"Have you ever seen that really old movie-"
"Peter, that's not a plan," I interrupted. "That movie doesn't count. Try a distraction method, you go for the Vulture, Ned will figure out what he's doing, and I'll protect you."
"You'll protect me?" Peter repeated shakily. "You promise?"
"I promise."
