"Okay, Peter," I muttered, grabbing his hand. "Let's play a game I like to call 'where's Tony now?'"
I've played that game many a times. When Tony won't come out of the lab, when he thinks hide-and-go-seek is a game sixteen year olds still play, and when he goes looking for Steve in his sleep.
Steve should be helping. Why couldn't Tony call him?
Peter shook his head. "No need. I already found Tony."
I shrugged at the use of his first name. Peter never did that.
Peter and I were sitting on an over looking balcony.
Below, Tony was on his own 'balcony', watching Strange below.
Strange's cape flew toward Tony, who held his blaster up to it.
He gave the cape a good look before lowering the blaster. "Wow, you're a seriously loyal piece of outerwear, aren't you?"
Peter picked this moment to lower us to Tony's level. "Speaking of loyalty," he said, voice edged with guilt.
I smiled sheepishly as my feet settled soundlessly next to Peter.
I had been shocked to find that my mask basically materialized away when I wanted it to.
Tony looked pissed, like, really pissed. "What the.."
Peter's mask disappeared to about mid-throat.
I swallowed hard.
Peter braced himself to be yelled at. "I know what you're gonna say," he started, and Tony also stepped toward him.
"You should not be here," Tony snapped.
"I was gonna go home!"
"I don't wanna hear it."
"But it was such a long way down, and I just thought about you on the way-"
"And now I've gotta hear it," Tony sighed.
"-and kinda stuck to the side of the ship," Peter finished.
I couldn't help but smile at the floor. Peter loved Tony.
"And this suit is," Peter chuckled, "ridiculously intuitive, by the way-"
"God damn it," Tony muttered.
"-so if anything, it's kinda your fault I'm up here," Peter motioned to Tony.
I cringed.
Both Tony and the cape behind him stood straighter. "What did you just say?" Tony asked, his tone rough.
Peter swallowed. "I take that back! And right now, I'm here in space-"
"Yeah, right where I didn't want you to be," both Tony and I said in unison.
Then we glared at each other.
"This isn't Coney Island," Tony spat. "This isn't a field trip. This is a one-way ticket. You hear me?" He addressed both of us. "Don't pretend you thought this through."
Peter looked offended. "No, I did think this through."
"You could not have possibly though this through."
"You can't be the friendly neighborhood SpiderMan if there is no neighborhood!" Peter said desperately. It sounded rehearsed.
"You can't be the friendly neighborhood SpiderMan if there is no SpiderMan," I snapped.
Both Peter and Tony were staring each other down.
Tony took a shaky breath. "Come on, we got a situation."
He pointed to the level below, where Strange was.
It looked like glass needles were surrounding him.
And he sounded in pain.
Tony pointed to him. "See him down there? He's in trouble. What's your plan? Go."
Peter crouched down.
I rose one eyebrow at Tony, who gave me a defeated shrug.
Peter stood back up. "Ever seen that really old movie Aliens?"
Both Tony and I stopped frowning to give him a look.
He had a point.
