Thor and Space Lady broke down the door and went in first, Tasha and Steve behind them. Rhodey took the rear. To be honest, I didn't know where Nebula went. I just wanted to get in there to beat some Thanos ass.

Rocket, holding my hand with his little feet planted firmly on the ground, didn't let me go in for a good minute. Then, out of irritation at not being let in, I swung him up into my arms and carried him into the cabin with me, stomping up the steps and throwing the door open. I guess I had zero regard for Thanos's property. He had zero regard for mine.

On the floor inside, remnants of the door Thor or Space Lady broke down were scattered, and the whole entire cabin was a mess.

All five of the team had Thanos pinned. Nebula was aiming her sword at his throat, and Thor looked beyond ready to chop Thanos's head off. The moment I saw Thanos, I wanted to as well.

I dropped the raccoon. Raising my hands and curling my fingers, black mist swirled around my arms. Should I choose too, I could blast him to kingdom come, like Wanda. The mist concentrated into a swirling ball between my hands, the purplish blue glow at the center lighting up the room.

Rocket clambered up my body, sitting on my shoulder, and put a careful paw on my wrist. "Easy now, cowgirl. They've got it."

I didn't listen. I felt better having this aimed at his brain.

"Where are they?" Thor demanded. "Answer the question."

"The universe required correction," Thanos didn't even answer. "After that, the stones served no purpose beyond temptation."

I spread my hands wider, the powerball growing.

"You murdered trillions!"

"You should be grateful," Thanos spat back.

"Where are the stones?!"

"Gone. Reduced to atoms." It bothered me how Thanos spoke so calmly. What bothered me more was when his eyes met mine.

"You used them two days ago!"

"I used the stones to destroy the stones," Thanos went on. "It nearly killed me. But the work is done. It always will be. I..am inevitable."

I caught my breath.

"Hello," Thanos said. It took me a moment to realize he was talking to me. "Ангел."

My whole body went rigid. "What did you just call me?"

"Ангел. I now remember hearing of you. The space stone...the power stone...mixed to create a powerful weapon. A girl." He spat the words at me. "Ангел. Angel. That's your name, isn't it?"

I felt my breath quicken. "N-no. My name is-"

"Ангел смерти. You're the Angel of Death." It shocked me the most that Tasha was the one who said this. She looked up at me. "That was your Red Room name...Angel."

"Nice to meet the other one the stones mixed to create. The death machine. I wish I'd known that back on Titan. I'd've brought you with me. But...now the stones are gone...there's no use for any of you."

"We have to tear this place apart. He has to be lying."

"My father is many things," Nebula said, looking at the floor. "A liar is not one of them."

"Thank you, daughter. Perhaps I treated you too harshly...." Thanos looked up at Nebula, as Thor swung Stormbreaker down at his head, lopping it clean off.

Rocket's small paws went over my eyes as my arms dropped, the mist dissipating. I placed my hands softly over Rocket's paws, crying. I stumbled backwards, searching for the door handle to just get out of this goddamn cabin.

"What did you do?!"

There was a pause, a pause that made me stop fumbling. I couldn't see, because every time I looked over my shoulder Rocket covered my eyes.

"I went for the head."

I shoved the door open and stumbled onto the porch, tears clouding my vision and making the floor fluctuate. Rocket held on to my neck so he didn't fall off my shoulder, until I sat down ungracefully on the steps. "We-we lost," I panted. "We really lost. He's gone...forever."

"I know," Rocket said carefully. "I know." He patted my shoulder softly.

"No," I said, pushing away from him, walking unsteadily in the general direction of the ship.

"We all lost someone, biscuit. We all did," Rocket called after me. "So yes, I do know. I don't understand, but I know."

I stopped walking.

"I didn't loose the love of my life like you did. Yeah, Natasha told me about him. I'm sorry kid."

I turned back around, meaning to walk to him, but my knees buckled, and I fell to the uneven ground. I hid my face in my hands.

I heard Rocket's paws hit the ground, and the sound of grass as he walked to me. Looking up, I saw him with his little arms opened, standing right in front of me. I held my hands away from my face, and he hugged it. This fluffy little raccoon just hugged my face.

I wrapped my arms around his tiny body carefully.

"I'm sorry kid." Rocket let go, standing back. "But we're all...we're all in this together."

Tasha opened the door to the cabin, stepping out onto the porch. Behind her the rest of the team followed, looking solemn. Hope was gone. That feeling as the worst; lack of hope. We had no where to go.

Rocket looked up at me, his fluffy eyebrows raised. "Time to go home."

Tasha reached for my hand, pulling me to my feet, and held it the whole walk back to the ship.

"Angel?" I asked, looking up at Tasha carefully.

"That was what they named you," she answered, looking at the ground.

"Why?"

"Because it was the name of the project. Angel of Death. To create the real death angel. Someone who'd destroy all their enemies. They used two infinity stones to do it, and I don't even know how they got the two. The tesseract, and the power stone. That's how you can...read minds. And teleport."

"How come it doesn't always work?"

"Because the results were incomplete. I pulled you out of there before they could finish. I saved your life. They never would've succeeded, more than they already did."

We didn't have anything to say after that.
