40: Let Him Go Again

When Happy's crew came to the beach, Peter and I watched from afar, sitting on a billboard. Not creepily like the Vulture though.

He was holding me tightly so I didn't fall, cause I'm no spider mutant.

I sighed. "I'm a jackass."

Peter didn't respond, and I knew he was too mad at me to reply.

So I didn't talk directly to him anymore. "You're more of an Avenger then any of us. You're Peter Parker. That's more then we'll ever be."

His grip tightened.

Like, now he didn't want me to fall now, whereas before he wouldn't really mind going to my funeral.

But he didn't talk.

I slammed my locker with contempt. I swore at it.

It had of course caught my finger.

Again.

And my finger, head, and chest hurt bad. But I was at school, cause home was worse. I couldn't stand being with Tony, who was more than likely trying to get Dumm-E to snake dance while holding a martini glass.

The moment I slammed it, I caught sight of Peter jogging past me.

Right toward Liz.

She was hugging her friend. Goodbye most likely, cause she was moving away.

"Liz!" He called to her.

She looked at him, and turned away.

"Liz, look, I'm so sorry," he told her.

She gave him a look. "You say that a lot, what are you sorry for this time?"

Peter glanced around.

"The dance?" She offered. "That was a..pretty crappy thing to do."

Peter now looked down.

I could only watch him.

"Well, yeah, but I-I mean your dad-I-I can't imagine what you're going through."

I knew Peter could imagine. He lost his father totally, he'll never see him again.

"If there's anything I can do to help," Peter continued.

Liz blinked. "I guess we're moving to Oregon..mom says it's nice there..so that's cool."

Peter gave a tiny nod.

Liz went on. "Anyways, dad doesn't want us here during the trial. So..."

Peter straightened his spine. "Liz, I-I-"

"Goodbye Peter," she cut him off. "Whatever's going on with you..I hope you figure it out."

Peter nodded.

Then he looked at me.

He chose Liz over me.

Again.

I lowered my gaze to the floor, and let him walk away.

Again.
