BEEEEEP! My phone went off, screeching. I jolted awake, and quickly fell out of the chair I had been sleeping in. Wait, chair? I rubbed my eyes and as I came to my senses, I realized I was in the hospital. Then I turned my head and saw her. Sleeping peacefully, seemingly undisturbed by my very obnoxious alarm, her silky auburn hair fanned out across the pillow, her eyelids peacefully shut, a faint smile across her face as she engaged in her slumber.
Shit. I should be home. I frantically scrolled through my phone, and saw many, many, many missed calls from my mom, Sarah, and Serris. Then over 100 texts.
Sarah: bro, get home asap. mom is mad.
Serris: ARE YOU WITH KAYCEEEEE?
Mom: Sean Charles Lew, you have five minutes before I drive and find you myself.
Sarah: Wait, Laura just called.
Serris: KYLIE AND LAURA ARE HEEEERE!!!! AND YOU AND KAYCEE AREN'T!!! YOU'RE IN TROUBLEEEEEEE
Sarah: Excuse Serris. Is everything ok? Call when you get the chance.
Serris: seanseanseanseanseannnnnn
Sarah: I just heard...I'm so sorry. Text me if you need anything.
Serris: .....Is Kaycee ok?
Sarah: Laura is a mess. Sean, I think you should be here. But I get it if you're not coming home. Mom does too.
I sighed and dialed my mom.
"Mom, hey."
"Sean..." she said, obvious fatigue in her voice.
"I'm sorry I didn't come home, I was just with her and I guess I fell asleep and-"
"She needed you, Sean. I understand."
"Thank you."
"But I do want you home, as from what Laura told me, you're still going to World of Dance?"
"I intend on it if Kayc gets cleared and she's still up for it."
"Okay, well then I want you home soon, to finish packing and to spend a little more time with me and your sisters."
"Got it. Okay. Love you," I said, watching Kaycee stir and slowly sit up, rubbing her head tentatively. "Okay, Kaycee just got up. Gotta go Mom, I love you. Bye." I turned my attention to Kaycee, who was looking at me through squinted, dazed eyes. "Morning, beautiful," I said, standing up and kissing her gingerly on the crown of her head. She leaned back and strained her neck to reach for me. "Did you-did you sleep here?"
