JADE’S POV
Coughing and gagging filled a single person restroom on February 28, the day that I was scheduled to marry James. My god, I could practically feel my waistline expanding. After having a huge breakfast this morning, I was feeling too full for my liking, so here I was, sticking two fingers down my throat, forcefully emptying my stomach. Twenty minutes. I had twenty minutes until I got married!
Knock! Knock!
“Jade? You in there?”
“Shit!” I cursed, flushing the toilet and storming over to the sink. I reached into my silver clutch, taking out a small toothbrush. I just needed to make sure my breath was good and fresh. I didn’t want James getting suspicious, especially not in the middle of the wedding. Also, what was Kendall doing outside the restroom? He was suppose to be in the chapel right now.
“Jade, I’m serious. You’re walking down the aisle in twenty minutes!”
“I’ll be out in a minute!” I said, brushing my teeth quickly. All done!
I rinsed the toothbrush off and shoved it into the clutch, sucking in a breath as I stepped back, looking at my reflection in the mirror. I absolutely adored my wedding gown. The strapless, white ball gown, the lace veil, the diamond encrusted shoes and jewelry, and my blonde hair hanging in waves down my back. Aunt Jess said I looked like a princess and I actually agreed for once.
“Jade!”
“Coming!” I called out, pulling the door open. Kendall was standing there, just staring at me. His arms were crossed, his eyes narrowed, and it was like he was purposely trying to make me feel nervous. Really? On my wedding day? I was hoping I’d get a break and could just focus on the excitement of becoming James’ wife.
“I know what you were doing in there.”
“Uh, no, you don’t.” I disagreed, stepping past him. He grabbed my arm, gently pulling me back. Seriously? We had to do this right now? It was clear that he didn’t care what I wanted. He was going to interrogate me whether I liked it or not.
“What you were doing is selfish, Jade. You are carrying a baby and by making yourself throw up, you are harming that baby. Don’t you get it? You are going to cause damage to your unborn child all for the sake of weight loss? That is a terrible thing to do. Do you even care?”
“Yes! I do care, Kendall! But all I want is to look beautiful when I walk down that aisle. I want James to feel like he’s marrying someone beautiful on the inside and out. Do you think he’ll want to spend the rest of his life sleeping next to someone that weighs five hundred pounds? No, I’m pretty sure he won’t!”
“Jade! Look, do you love James?”
“Excuse me?!”
“You heard me. Do you love James?”
“I...” I inhaled. “Of course I do. I love him more than anything.”
That wasn’t a lie either. James meant the whole world to me and I wanted the very best for him. Kendall had to realize that, right? He had to.
“Then please, don’t harm yourself and his child. Because that would kill him more than the cancer.”
Okay, that struck a major chord with me. Ugh, he was right and I knew it. James showed so much love for me and our baby, and if I relapsed, It would kill him. I was suppose to be in recovery. I was suppose to be on my way to becoming a healthy, happy individual and, of course, a wife and mother-to-be. I had to stay strong for James and our little one.
