This chapter isn't super eventful, but Gabriel does reveal something quite worriesome. However, in the coming chapters, there will be lots of excitement with James, Jade, and her pregnancy! :) xoxoxo, Brooke

JAMES' POV

"Finals are in two weeks, you guys!" Miss Carson chirped. "Congrats, you made it! Now we just have to prepare for final exams, which I know you all will do well on."

I was having doubts about finals. I was going to have to take mine a little earlier because I would be doing chemo around the actual finals time, which meant that I likely wouldn't be well enough to take the exams with the class. Therefore, I would be taking mine next week rather than the week after. I didn't really mind too much, though. I mean, it would mean I was done with school and could focus entirely on my wife and the twins.

I couldn't believe Jade was eighteen weeks pregnant. She was getting really big now and as far as eating disorder recovery goes, she was doing well. She had grown more receptive to treatment, which pleased the team working with her. She didn't even seem that freaked out by the weight gain anymore, even though I knew it was a little intimidating for her. Luckily, she had begun to remind herself of the fact that the weight gain was a good thing because there were two handsome little boys growing inside of her.

She had decided that she wanted a natural birth. Her OB-GYN (obstetrician/gynecologist) said that he would do what he could to see that it happened, but that there were no guarantees. Depending on how things went, there was also a chance that she would have to have a C-section. Still, she was keeping up hope for a natural birth.

"Uh, Gabriel? You're sleeping again." Miss Carson raised an eyebrow. I glanced at my roommate, who seemed to be spending more time sleeping than doing anything else. I kept asking him what was going on, but he just refused to tell me...or anyone for that matter. I wished he would at least say something.

"Huh? Oh, sorry." He sat up slowly, his eyes glued to the blackboard. I directed my eyes to my desk as Miss Carson passed around study sheets for the math portion of our exam. She had been spending extra time at the hospital to work with me, something I was highly grateful for. Then there was Gabriel, who didn't seem at all interested in preparing for the exam. I wanted to know why, but had given up on asking.

I shouldn't have worried so much. I had days like that too, but I don't know, something just felt wrong. Like, really wrong.

"I am going to give you guys a little time to practice on your own. You may work in groups, you may refer to your book and notes." Miss Carson returned to her desk and sat down, while I grabbed my pencil and eyed the first problem.

The picture shows a drawing of an arrow painted in the traffic lane of a road. What is the area, in square inches, of the arrow?

"Okay, the body of the arrow is 25 inches wide, 10 inches tall on one end, 20 inches tall on the other end, and then the arrow part itself is 15 inches long. The area of the rectangle is 25 times 10...and that's...250 square inches? Yeah. Anyway, the triangle is 1/2 x 20 x 15...150 square inches? If you add 250 plus 150, you get...okay, the calculator says 400, so...Option C!"

I felt proud of myself for figuring that one out and I was going to continue my internal celebration until Gabriel tapped my shoulder.

"We need to talk." He said, then looked over at our teacher, who nodded and motioned to the door. She had a sort of saddened look on her face, but I had a feeling I would be finding out why very soon.
