Chapter 21
LEXI’S POV
November 22, 2012…1 week after family reunion…12 days after Russia…
Today is Thanksgiving…it’s the first Thanksgiving with out mom and dad. We had traditions on Thanksgiving, just like every other family, ours were just slightly different. We didn’t have turkey, or ham or any other type of meat since I was a vegetarian. I had been a vegetarian for as long as I could remember, eating things I could talk to never settled well with me, I felt like it would be eating a friend. My mother and Kayla felt the same way.
Niall hadn’t been too happy about that, but they were always very thoughtful about it and made sure not to eat meat around me or Kayla. Harry had practically quit meat all together when we started dating officially and even when he did eat meat he always brushed his teeth before kissing me.
The boys’ families would be coming over to the Tomlinson’s so we could all celebrate together. Everyone was bringing something, and it was all vegetarian, we weren’t even having a turkey, despite my protests.
They told me that Kayla and I were part of their family now and if not having turkey was part of my tradition, it would become part of theirs too.
We all sat down around the Tomlinson’s huge dining room table, I sat next to the boys, side by side, I was in the middle of them between Niall and Harry, Kayla was sitting by Daisy and Phoebe at the other end of the table.
“I’d like to say something” Zayn announced, standing up and raising his glass of champagne. The boys and the rest of the adults all raised their glasses of champagne, and the kids, Liam, and I raised our glasses of apple cidar.
“I just wanted to thank the boys for everything they have done for me, and I’d like to thank Lexi and Kayla, I’m so glad you two came into my life, Lexi, you have changed my life in so many ways. You helped me quit smoking, I feel more confident about my self when you’re around, and I love you with all my heart. I am having the time of my life, and it’s all thanks to you”
“I love you too Zayn” I smiled.
“I’d like to say something as well” Liam said standing up.
“Lexi, I never thought someone could make such a big impact on my life, but you have. You never fail to always put a smile on my face, and I honestly don’t know what I would do with out you, I love you so much. That being said, Harry, you better treat her right or else!” he warned.
“Yeah Harry! You don’t even wanna know what I would do to you if you ever hurt her!” Louis agreed.
“Yeah! I’ll beat you to a pulp!” Niall said smiling.
He laughed “Don’t worry boys, I’d have to be an idiot to ever let this one go” he said, looking down at me.
“Okay, settle down boys, it’s my turn!” Niall’s mother announced, standing up. “First of all, I’d like to thank God that I am lucky enough to celebrate this wonderful holiday with all of these beautiful people. I’m so proud of you, Niall, for living your dreams with these amazing boys. Niall, Liam, Louis, Harry, and Zayn, you boys have made such a huge impact on all of our lives, so thank you, I’d also like to thank the Tomlinson’s for welcoming us into their lovely home and giving us somewhere to celebrate this holiday together and I’d like to thank God for this wonderful meal. Lastly, and I think I speak for everyone here when I say this, Thank you Alexis. Lexi, love, I’ve only known you for a short while, but in the short time I’ve gotten to know you, I’ve discovered that you are the most amazing young lady I have ever had the pleasure of meeting, you are so sweet, caring, fun, and I can see that you are the best thing that ever happened to these boys. I don’t know how you managed to stay so strong despite everything you’ve gone through. You are a remarkable young woman, you saved my son’s life, accident or not, you did. We owe you everything and I wish you and Kayla all the best, where ever life takes you. I want you to know that we will always be there for you, no matter what. Welcome to the family, love. To Lexi” she said, raising her glass.
I blinked and tears spilled over my eyes.
“To Lexi!” everyone cheered, raising their glasses.
Harry looked to me and squeezed my thigh comfortingly. I smiled warmly and dabbed my eyes dry with my napkin.
We all dug in, enjoying the meal, the first Thanksgiving with out my parents went better than planned, Kayla was happy and so was I. I hadn’t really realized it until now, but I had found myself a new family, and I was the happiest I had been in a long time, even if things did tend to go terribly wrong more often than I wanted.
